Thanks for the info. I didn't think about mixing them. That probably isn't a good idea. My leather is soft and I want to keep it this way if I can.

Richelson,

If you go the Leatherique route, you only need to use the oil and cleaner once a year, after youve done the initial three applications. I personally wouldnt mix lexol and Leatherique.

When I ordered the dye, we had an apparent miscommunication about what the typical "tan" interior was. They corrected at no charge after we found out my interior was actually "magnolia". Anyway, George is VERY customer oriented and I am very satisfied. (Ideally, I would have sent them a sample but it's hard to find a place to easily clip a piece on my baby...)

The match is so good, I can spot dye anywhere and you can't see it when it dries. If you want to keep the stitching undyed and looking more original, you can use a Q-Tip to remove some of the dye before it dries.

Jerry, I have saddle tan interior too. I have 3 coats on the door panels. The first coat looked disapointing, but the color got better with the second and third coat and looks "even" now. Put new speakers in too! The drivers seat will be the biggest challenge as it has more color worn off. That may need one more coat than the door panels. Color match from leatherique was good. I told them what I had and they knew what to send me.

Mark,
I am in the process of doing the same to my '79 308 GTS with saddle interior. What color is your interior and how many coats did you have to put on in order to get a consistent color? I think I put on adout 7 or 8 but it looks excellent. I'm just replacing my window motors, speakers and installing new vapor barrior...then re-assembly!

I have used Hide Food and Lexol on other cars ( TF, P car, and BMW). Just got Leatherique a few weeks ago. Got the discount too! Rejuvenator works better (really softens) than the rest on old leather, Pristine Clean could be used for regular leather maintenance. I also bought the dye and have done the door panels on my 79 308 GTS.I had the door panels off the car. Never used a dye before, but I am happy with the result. The seats will be next. With time and effort the result was quite good.If your leather is sound, but just old and faded, you should try Leatherique, much less than new uphostery.

REAL Sperm Whale oil is very difficult to get, I believe it is illegal now. There is a synthetic substitute that works, I mix it with melted Beeswax to dip the felt wads used between the powder and bullets in my Sharp's .50cal cartridges. Feels like it would be a good leather conditioner!

I'd guess you'd need big hands and some scuba gear to harvest that stuff.

What exactly does the whale sperm do to the leather? Is it in leatherique just so people say to themselves "ohh, it has whale sperm, it must work well" or does it really do something.

Do you use Lexol Leather Conditioner for between times? I am looking for something I can use once a week in between times that isn't as time consuming for short conditioning. Is Lexol a good choice or ?.

I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND LEATHERIQUE over all other leather products discussed in this thread.
Lexol is ok for in between times, but if you want to do it right use leatherique. My only other comment to add to Lens description is that I needed to gently rinse (wipe down with warm water wet towel) then buff after the cleaner was applied, and the instructions don't say to do that. I want to guess that some of the other products that were used on my leather (before I got to it) left a bit of a sticky residue after the oil/cleaner treatment. Once rinsed everything was much better.

-Ben

P.S. WEAR GLOVES! lol

Magoo,

I removed the seats, and loosened the center console. It took about a month because I let each seat sit in its plastic cocoon at least 24 hours, sometimes longer. Two seats, three applications of oil and cleaner...Then I moved on to the door panels and dash.

Wasn't whale sperm used in limited slip rears as a additive for some time until it was outlawed? G.M. had the additive.

Lens, It took you a month to condition your leather? Did you remove the entire interior to do it?

Ive used Hide Food, Lexol, and Leatherique. In my opinion, nothing cleans and conditions like Leatheriqueif you follow the instructions. At least three applications of the rejuvenator oil, applied and left to sit in a warm, humid place for at least twenty-four hours. I use my attic. Remove your seats and wrap them in large plastic trash bags. Use a soft bristle tooth brush to work loose stubborn dirt.

My cars interior was in good condition, but after Leatherique (it took about a mointh to do the entire interior) it really looked and smelled like a brand new car.

Neither. Use Connely Hide Food. After all, what kind of leather do you have in your Ferrari ? Certainly Connely knows what is best to treat it and keep it looking good.

I have been thrilled with Lexol but people keep talking about Leatherique. Is it really better? Have any of you guys used both? Preferences?
