[[[I have been told that there is an ample supply of nice 355 Spiders for just under $100,000]]]

i guess that depends on how you define "ample" and "nice" :-)

a quick search doesn't reveal a whole lot in that price range.

though by the end of the year, i think you'll see more in that space.

Just picked up the Spider we bought in LA this last week and drove that car. The car is a perfect 10. I will have to revise my origional intended price of $ 71,900 and have to price it higher. This car is uniquely good.

Since I have not looked at 348 Spider prices in a week or two, was curious what they are today. Following are all the 348 Spiders on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1837447702

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1838124987

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1836515338

It sure seems that 348 Spiders in the 50s is already here or will be shortly.

Since I want to buy one, I hope they do plunge.

I want to keep it so resell does not matter.

I think what people are willing to pay is a good indication, although they might be a little on the low side:

If the prices decline 7 to 10 % a year, what will they cost in a year to a Year and a half?

The asking prices are higher than the selling prices.

I enjoy Ferrarichat, but have not been on lately.

I do not have the advantage of long term knowledge of Ferrari prices, but I am Mussorian (spelling) in nature - show me.

A few minutes ago in FML, asking prices of 348 Spiders:
76,743 current asking
79,530, - 3.5 % 6 months ago
81,555, - 5.9 % 1 year ago
82,495, - 6.97 % 2 years ago

Notice how fast the prices are dropping in the last 6 months compared to a year ago and two years ago.

Prices declining at 7 % a year and the decline increasing does not seem to me to be stablizing and slightly increasing.

How do asking prices compare to selling prices in a very slow market with a surplus of inventory?

Not long ago a member of Ferrari chat said he could only sell his very nice Testarossa for $50,000. That there were too many on the market that could be had for $45,000 to $50,000. The current asking price for the first Testarossas are listed as $59,869 or $73,233 depending on year. Seems to be a big difference between asking and selling prices.

I have been told that there is an ample supply of nice 355 Spiders for just under $100,000. Current asking prices for 355 Spiders - $131,196.
Some people predicate that 355 Spiders will be around $75,000 in the not too distant future.

If a 355 Spider sells for $75,000, what will a 348 Spider sell for?

Based upon all this, it seems that an extremely nice 348 (top 5 %) should be between $65,000 and $72,000. I think we will be surprised at how fast the 348 Spider prices drop to $50,000 to $60,000 for the very best examples.

If I am wrong, convince me otherwise.

I do agree with Howie. $72,000 to 77,000 is what I have seen these days. What hurts the market (even though we do not buy a ferrari for that reason only) is those ads that come up for 348 spiders for $60,000 or $65,000. Either those cars are in terrible shape or the seller is desperate to sell and none of that is mentioned in the add...
Places like ebay also give the wrong impression about what is going on. It sometimes looks like you can get a 355 spider for $90,000... no way.
Ideally there would be a database of real dealer sales for used exotics to know what is going on.

Generally speaking, I find that time of year has little bearing on the price of exotics and high end autos. 348 Spiders have been selling in the
$ 72,000 - $ 77,000 area (good examples, of course). And with regard to 348s in general, prices have indeed stabilized and may even be on the upswing. It's the 355 models that are representing the best value at this time. Some people in the Ferrari community are saying that the 355 will be the last "race" street legal car Ferrari will ever make.

You may be right the vale of the 348s may be rising, but also take into account that its summer time now and exotic car prices rise in the summer and fall in the winter. The best check is to look at the prices 12 months ago.

There have been a number of discussion about 348 prices falling. I definitely think they will not fall much further and even edge up for some models. I am mostly talking about of 348 spiders ( only 1090 made) and 348 speciales but also 1994 and 1995 348 gts and gtb all made in very small numbers.
Spiders are already up in last issue of ferrari market letter compared to one before last.
I have seen people talk about 348 spiders in the $60,000 range. Stay away from those. Any good 348 spider sells at a minimum of 75,000, even today. I have been calling a few dealers to get real selling prices (and cross checked with different sales people)
Will be happy to get your comments.
It is a beautiful day in Chicago... Sure would love to go for a drive now...
Take care everyone...
