"The way it futzes" to answer the other part of Doody's question; is that there is an electrically driven actuator (red in color) on top of each shock absorber. The actuator is a rotory stepper motor with a position feedback sensor. It turns a shaft that comes out of the top of the shock to vary the damping. The computor, which reacts not only to the cockpit stitch (2 distinct modes) but also to some accelerometers (somewhere in the car??)drives these actuators. We have heard of leaky shocks on the 355's, and I have seen oil emminating from this area between the top of the shock and the red actuator on some cars, so maybe this is whats being refered to....Mike |

I only use the soft mode on rough roads, which ends up being less than 5% of the time. When I first got the 355, I used the soft mode a lot, but as I grew accustomed to the vehicle I found the soft mode made the rear of the car feel sloppy. After a couple of thousand miles I ended up liking the basic firmness and precision that the sport mode delivers (even while driving interstate quality roads). |

I run mine in sport mode 100% The car will automatically switch to sport mode once you hit 80 mph. Chris |

Unless the roads are really nice and new (or at least not bumpy like crappy London roads are) I keep the switch on comfort setting (i.e. the button in the down position, with the dash light on telling you that you are being a wimp). The NORMAL or comfort setting basically reduces the stiffness of the suspension so you can go over bumps and rough ground with a little more comfort |

The user manual isn't particularly informative on what exactly the suspension switch does. Obviously it futzes with the adaptive damping system, but does it do anything else? And how does it futz with it per se? Does anybody know the gory details? What do people generally run with? I tend to keep the switch in sport mode. Curious to know if there's a reason NOT to do this (e.g.: the changes to the suspension system are extreme so it'll cause a lot of nasty wear, etc.). Doody! |
