I ALMOST bought a Euro 360. From what I understand the Dr.'s statements are very accurate.

Doody, I also thought I would be ahead on the delta. You wont be. It is WAY to hard to sell the cars. It is very difficult to whoelsale them.

Look the damn cars are the same, but ferrari dealers generally wont buy them when you want to sell so that is out. You delta between future resale of a euro and US is GREATER than the delta between Euro and US current discount.

You also have Warranty problems. Yes you can get a third party warranty, but ever have to use health insurance when your doctor is not on the list? You pay now and hope to get reimburement.

But, the biggest problem is the conversion houses. They preactive what I call conversion extorsion. You have dropped say 170K on a car + duty+ shipping, and now it is in a conversion houre who is collecting say 20K. Well the 170K is GONE. Now the conversion house says "well we need another 5K and 2 weeks or no car."

You are stuck. If you say forget I will come take my car, you cant. If you say you want your money back, the conversion house did not sell you the car. Basically you pay or sue on the contract.

Believe me 5K is not worth suing over. I considered buying a converted spyder at a small premium to yet to be converted (195) but discovered that in 3 years a US spyder will likely be worth 200 where a Euro may only be worth 140. One can get a spyder (US) now for 230. So I would lose 30 on the US, or 60 on the Euro. Why? Because I am virtually locked up to the private sale market.

Again remember I said ? Ferrari of North America is a better propaganda artist then . . . . Well you can fill int he blanks.

I decided it was not worth the headache.

I would also be interested in the comments.

I have read most of the previous comments on Euro cars.

Doody you think like me. However, I am currently only interested in 348 Spiders or 360 Spiders. Not likely to change in the near future.

are you saying that you regret your decision martin?

it seems to me that if your intent is to drive and enjoy the car and put miles on it (my intent), you're hosed either way on resale since high-mileage cars get beat up quite a bit.

i'm thinking i'm going to want myself a 575M at some point in two-three years. i'd have no compunction about getting in for less, investing the delta, and getting out for less later. it'll still be a net positive in the end IMO (it's not like cars are generally smart ROI vehicles (pun intended)).

but i'd be curious to hear if you regret your decision now and if so, why.

doody.

Dave,
The subject of buying a euro (which I did)has been discussed many times.Just hit "search" under the subject.
Bottom line in my opinion is you will save bucks going in,get less for it at sale going out and have much agita in between.

People like Highline Brokers have Euro 360 Spider prices starting at around $160,000.

There is a chance that I may be in Europe soon. Are the prices in Europe cheaper than this $160,000. What are the pitfalls of buying a Ferrari in Europe, using it there, and then bring it back into the US?
