I have a 1984 308 and have had Bret at Skelton Ferrari do all my work. He has been doing it for many years. He is a true mechanic not a parts replacer. You can reach him at 510-526-6808. Congratulations on picking up your new toy. |

James: The FCA Tech day is just a local event sponsored by the local(Pacific) chapter of the Ferrari Club of America. I was browsing the FCA web site to compare their community to the Ferrari Owners Club and noticed that they were meeting at Patrick's next weekend. It was listed as a FCA member event w/ RSVP. I called and spoke with the contact and he said to simply bring my car down and enjoy the morning getting to know the members and our cars. Sounds like alot of fun with nice people. If you need the contact, check the upcoming events section at FCA. I'm sure it would be open to any prospective new members for the Ferrari community. Hope to see you there. |

Though it is not as closely located as other shops being mentioned from where you live, there is Veloce Speedesign in Campbell. Mark Spencer is the owner and is a super guy! He used to work at FLG for many years prior to becoming an independent 4 1/5 years ago. I also have the 85 308QV like you do and Mark has extensive knowledge about the car. You cannot go wrong with Mark. Because of his great reputations, many customers are still flowing in and he seems to be backlogged. As for the costs, I think he is quite reasonable. He sometimes works on Saturday as well. Contact Mark at (408) 369-9792. |

What is FCA Tech day and does one need an invitation or is it open to the public. I have tried to make an appointment at Skeltons and he was booked for a month but was very nice to talked to. All good shops are booked in advance. I had to cancel the appointment cuz the car had to go into the body shop but as soon as its out, Im going to call for another appointment. I have also heard good things about Patrick Otis. |

Hi Robert: Congratulations on the new QV. It looks wonderful. I too just took delivery of my 85 QV and am going through the same new owner fun. I might suggest a couple Berkeley independants that I used during my PPI's. Both shops are Ferrari only service providers. Patrick Otis & Co. Patrick and his staff are top notch. They are actually having a FCA tech day next Sat. so if your interested, email me and we could go over together. They are probably around the same as a dealer in costs. They are back logged 6 weeks for service, so you can read into that what you wish. I can only say that during my PPI's, they treated every vehicle be it a 308, or F40, with the same respect, care, and attention that I have ever seen. It was very reassuring, and Patrick was a really nice fellow to talk with. No BS. Skelton Ferrari is another shop I came across too. They seem very professional, knowlegable, and courteous. Something I can't say for FSF, or FLG. They're shop rates do seem lower than typical for Ferrari service. From what I have gathered, they offer quality service and customer care. They are also back logged about 1 week for most servicing. It just seemed to me that as soon as I mentioned that I owned a 308, the dealers were not interested. Good luck, and let me know if you find a good wrench. I'm probably going to use Patrick or Skelton for my first major.

Not that I need one yet, but I've noticed that there are quite a few bay area folks on F-chat. So I'll open this one up for discussion. Any recommendations on independent service shops in and around the bay area? Someone with years of proven experience, that doesn't charge an outrageous amount or at least deserves to if they do? I'll throw one out there for starters, although please bear in mind that I've only just begun, having recently acquired my 85 308QV and have not yet used anyone at this time...just planning out the next service and looking for some names to keep in my back pocket when the time comes. Prestige Autohaus in Walnut Creek, family owned and operated for 17 years, owner is a former Engineer from Stuttgart who worked for Mercedes for many, many years before coming to the states... nice friendly folks, reasonable pricing, appear to know ferrari's inside and out and with many long standing connections to other complimentary service shops that also do, lots of primo cars in their shop...aston martin db5 being restored, frame up restored 330gtc, 57 tbird, couple of rolls & bentleys a diablo or two and a healthy majority of 348, 355, 308, mondial, 328, 465gta and 360 spyders in the shop. no personal experience but would love to learn from others experiences both good and bad. |
