I understand not getting caught up in the fever and doing the homework but I have seen numerous reports in quality publications (R&T,FML) of TRS, BBs etc going for 20k under what you would pay privately - and they we considered good examples

I bought a Euro TR at a Kruse Auction in Dallas and it was a mess. The car had accident damage I was not aware of, needed a clutch, exhaust smell in the cabin, etc. I paid $50k plus the buyers premium of another $2k I think. I ended up trading it in for $30k on a pristine TR. Ouch. I think the deals are there but this was not one of them. Watch out for Ferrari Fever when you bid.

I remember about 2 years ago they auctions the Indi car from Tony Steward, that he used in Indy and then flew to the Coca Cola 600. The highest price bid was $50,000, whichto me is a great deal for a fully functional Indy Car.

Does anybody know if they sold the car for that price?

I always though the BJ-Auction prices were a little too high. Especially that you have to add a 10% premium to the price. Your 100,000 car just got $ 110,000.

I believe you can also not drive them and test them on the road, so you really buy the cat in the sack.

not talking ebay but at Barrett Jackson etc. It seems to me if you are careful you can pick up a nice car at the low and middle end - say 50-110k for less then you might pay a private seller. The level seems to be passed over by the big bidders and without a lot of interest and no reserves you can do well even with the buyers prem. Any of you guys gotten a car at one of these things? Are my impressions wrong?
