I knew it had something to do with his father's purple-looking signature. I'll dig around for my source also.

DAn,
Only a cardiologist would think that way!

I always think of Rossa Corsa as arterial blood red (high in oxygen content). The old orig Ferrari looks like venous blood red (low in oxygen). Maybe the "paint" became deoxigenated with age? See how a Ferrari owning Cardiologist can combine medicine and cars?

And furthermoe.... The only reason Enzo went with a purple ink was in memory of his father. As his father only used blue ink in letters to Enzo and after time they faded and the ink looked purple.
I have a 32x24 garage(one of several) 2 story. The top floor is full of this kind of stuff, books, newsletters, magazines etc, etc, etc. It just takes me time to dig stuff out.

I remember some post a week or 2 ago about how Enzo prefered purple Ferraris and his wife prefered red and she got the red and he then went on to signing his name in purple ink thereafter as a compromise. Well it took some digging but!!!!
Ferrari only wanted Red. On the old cars they made red paint with real animal blood as pigment additive. As the car aged and the blood (broke down, maybe some doctors could explain better what the blood did chemically) It started to make the car look purple. That is why an original car looks purple and can not dare be repainted or it would lose half it's value. He NEVER wanted purple cars. The original purple looking cars were accidents.I guess only real Ferrari's are still RED.jk
