willis, regarding dc's tire chaos, think he really didn't have his head on straight that day, and/or same can be said for ron dennis. the problem is that michelin doesn't have an intermediate worthy of the name, so their choice is either grooved or rain tires. there was no standing water on the track so wets wud have gotten too hot too quickly, so they stayed out on grooves, which as they slowed decreased their traction (no heat, no downforce) as well. bit of a catch 22. frankly i wud have gone the route that williams took, and that is go to rains, forget about the heat generation (ambient temp was +13 deg c anyway), and at least keep the car on the track. i think kim was doing just that when he got pulled in by dennis to go back on grooves - bonehead strategy again since he already had david doing that (badly), so he should have kept kimi out on rains until he himself decided it wasn't right. kimi definetely showed himself to be the better driver of the 2......dc's future would be in question if i were running the team..... |

Apparently a lot of the problem with DC was communications... according to Ron Dennis all he could hear on the R/T was Italian TV commentary! Because of this DC didn't actually hear the call to go in for tyres until he'd already passed the pit lane entrance. Of course they then called the tyre choice wrong, etc etc... just one of those days. Mclaren do seem to have a LOT of "those days" though... |

I think Rubinho finds his style better suited to the 2002 than last year's car. He has been closer/faster than Michael ever since he started driving it. - JMG |

Man, what an exciting race! Just think what would happen if Rubens didn't spin out toward the end! He could have caught MS and have a realistic chance to win it from last place (barring team orders)! What was the deal with DC and the weird tire selections? |

You're dead right Ross - I love a wet race because that's when the difference in the cars is minimised and pure driving ability shines through. Right from his early F1 days with the also-ran teams Rubino has been brilliant in the wet... almost as good as that other guy... what's his name...? Michael something..?

u r so right. by end of first lap he had taken 4 places, and was 10th by lap 4, absolutely brilliant. the wet/greasy track really seperated the men from the boys - you could easily see who had better car control etc. silverstone is usually grim to attend given the weather but at least the entertainment value is high. |

Rubens was incredible--going from last place to a close 2nd, in the rain! He is having a spectacular year. I wonder what changed with him? He seems an entirely different person from the last 2 seasons. |
