I think the idea of treating a 308 like any other $25k car is the reason it is so hard to find a 308 GT4 in good condition. Like many of you have said Ferraris are not cheap to fix or maintain. If your average $25k car cost this much to maintain and repair most people would either neglect or cut corners in order to keep them running and then eventually they would allow them to rot. Which is exactly the case with most surviving GT4's and if the attitude of this is "Just a Car" continues QV's and 328's will go the same way. Please keep good care of your beautiful mastepieces so that those of us that are saving and counting the days till we own one can find a quality car.

Why not park that Daytona 365 GTB4 in MY garage - I'll make sure it's WELL taken care of (wink)

Horsefly, while your logic is sound, it does not work that way in real life. Truth is, the people whom you need to worry about are lazzy. This fact alone makes the car cover worth your while.

Also, they would have to LIFT up the cover on the FERRARI. I think they would be worried about people seeing them do that more than them just walking by with their key sticking out.

Wouldn't covering up your car just send a giant signal to vandals and thieves? Sort of like saying, "Hey everybody, here's something so nice and valuable that we keep it covered up so that you might not see it!" After all, who covers up a Pinto or a Gremlin when they park it? And of course if you park a long way away from other vehicles, then you're just farther away from anybody who might notice the thief that is now working unnoticed while he breaks into your car.

"Treat your car according to what it is worth TO YOU."

Agreed! YOU know what care is needed with your car. How important to you is it?

$25k or not, a 308 is a relatively rare 20 some odd year old classic. Parts aren't that easy to find and fixes aren't that cheap. Certainly not as cheap as the $25k Dodge. In addition, as so intelligently pointed out, a lot of bozos are out there and many people think even a $25k 308 is a $100k car.

Jealousy and lack of gray matter lead to vandalism.

A car is not just a car. Treat your 308 the same way you would any other $25k car? I don't think so. By the way, my 308 is worth waay more TO ME than any old $25k car. Treat your car according to what it is worth TO YOU.

Frank, as far as the comment on 308s versus other $25K cars, the real truth is that we F-car owners are in the extreme minority in knowing what the true value of those or any F-car is worth.

Not wanting to get back on the "how much did you pay" thread, but I've had enough people who think that any Ferrari is probably at least in the $100K range. I've told many people what can be purchased between $30K and $50K and most think I'm joking with them. Perception versus reality.

Oh and in works car parks if I get the choice to park to someone elses drivers side or passengers side, I pick the passengers side. Theres usually nobody getting in or out of that door.

Just another option that may lessen the chance of a mishap.

Parking, Parking, Parking!! I have a TR, 348, tcab and F40....I drive them everywhere, and have never had a problem. I park usually quite far away...and ALWAYS use a cover. The only time that I have ever had a car tampered with was when it wasn't covered.

I take my 355 everywhere. If I can't see it, I put the cheap brown cover over it (not the red one that came with it). Makes it look like a corvette, and in 2+ years never had any grief. If I'm going out, and there is no parking, I use the valet, and given them a little extra to park it in front where I can see it.

Before I started using the cover (with my 348) I had several of the valve caps stolen. The plain brown cover works well. I never even lock the car.

You have to have seperate rules based on region also. Here in NYC, I would really advise against meter parking.

When I head into Manhattan I always hand my BMW over to a valet. My friends think Im crazy for "wasting" money. Meanwhile, I've never suffered even so much as a door ding from the parking lots and my friends have come back to their "safe" and cheap street spot to find mirrors ripped off and bumpers crushed.

When I used to have to take my Corvette into Manhattan, I would pay the guy in the lot an extra 10 bucks to leave the car up front and away from other cars. All the Manhattan lots have spots like that and I think the expense is worth it. It beats never being able to drive your nicest ride into the city.

Ah, I see. Sorry for the accusation.

I do, however, disagree. People are not likely to key a new Tahoe or Maxima, however be sure that some young male in his 20's will lash at at ANY Ferrari regardless of price. The sad thing is, the cheaper Ferrari's owners are the ones least likely to afford to fix the damage. Funny how the world works.

Mitchell, I did not mean to belittled his car at all. I love the 308 and think it is the one of the best looking Dino designs out there. My point is that one should not worry about parking a Dino or Ferrari any more than one would about a similiar priced other marque. I drive a BMW M5 and worry about the same when parking it as I do my Dino 348. They're worth about the same. It's funny that one would worry so much about a $25k 308 but yet park their $50k SUV, Audi, BMW, MB or whatever without any thought whatsoever. A car is a car is a car IMHO.

Have a bad day did we? No need to belittle those who car not afford 60k+ cars. I am sure he loves his Ferrari as much as you love yours. Don't you recall being younger and broke? I sure do!

I've had a set of valve caps stolen twice...while 'parked' at the dealership waiting for service!

However, the dealership did offer to replace them both times.

Yeah, sometimes if you can get the first spot where you a protected on one or two sides it is better because people are always around to "watch" your car. its a trade off

I parked mine at the mall to run in and get a suit that was ready, I was gone ten minutes and parked on the boonies and sombody grabed my vaulve caps. The security camera picked it up but the kid that did it parked his car in front of mine and I could not see his plate number. I tried.
I try to park close to the entrance that way people can see the car, and people will leave it alone

you have to be careful - look what happened to Frank's car when his wife had it - slashed tires. My wife was driving the other day and a guy gave her the finger - he was coming the other way so she did not cut him off :-). I just don't understand it.

I drive everywhere, I park everywhere and I never NEVER valet the car. NEVER!
I have actually turned around when Valet was mandatory. There is a building her ein Miami where you HAVE to valet your car. I never visit friends in there. Flat out refuse, no matter which car.

PArk as far away from the store as possible, I do use two occassionaly, especially when I am very far away from the other parked cars.

Rather use a meter than a maned lot, these guys try to squeeze more cars than it was designed for so you will get dings, and pay tripple the price for your dings, instead of finding the meter!

yep, just be careful and don't tempt fate. I try not to park next to old bangers, I give cars a wide parking gap if possible and if this is not possible I will stay with the car while the missus runs in to get whatever or I dont park there...period. I try and find an end spot where I can justify it out of the line slightly, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO UPSET SOMEONE.

Ive had car doors dented whilst I've actually been sat in my car (not F cars but I'm sure it happens)....you know who's responsible but it doesnt help get it back to MINT does it (that involves a repair shop who are any good, in twenty years I've yet to find one I've been TOTALLY happy with)!

on a couple of occasions years ago I parked across two spaces and had notes left under windscreen so I never dream of doing that now (must admit it winds me up so I can see others point of view). This practice is selfish, particularly if there are few spaces to start with.

Regarding theft, like modman, I dont care about actual total vehicle theft, if it happens it happens. I certainly wouldn't want it back, so forget tracking devices! If youre lucky it would have a few scrathes, if not an engine/gearbox problem. My car has a Tracker device fitted by previous owner, but I dont pay subscription, dont activate it and don't claim it on my insurance, because if the car gets nicked I dont particularly want to be re acquainted with it.

When I park my car I make sure there is plenty of room for the other car door to open up, door dings are very common. I've seen old people open doors and some of them don't have the energy or flexibility to open their doors carefully and then bang, slammed into the car next to them- seen it plenty of times. I don't worry about the car being stolen since it's a fat chance that will happen and I don't really care, just means time for a new car..

When I take it out and leave it unattended, I usually am in a spot where I can see it like a watchful mother over the flock.

I hate not knowing what's going on around the car. Invariably, there are usually a few people standing around it.

LOL.

great answer, ferraribob :-)

as t88power said, use your best judgement. you know the areas you go to. be rationally cautious.

when in doubt - take another car instead - you'll kick yourself if someone trashes or burgles your car in some random parking lot.

I hate having to worry about parking but I do. Visions of Ferris Bueller's Day Off have me rarely valet. In fact at the LA FCA event the valet broke off the seat adjustor in a friend's 308. You would think they'd be a tad more careful!!

I had my wheeel centers stolen before. Try not to have any pattern as to where and when u leave your car. If u do it gives a theif a chance to show up with the tools to do some real damage.

i take my 360 to the mall, restaurants, work... basically anywhere. You just have to use common sense and know where to park. Since you probably go to the same places often, you will know which areas/spots are safe. I know where I can leave my car in relative safety already because I know my area.

Obviously, no valet parking (you dont want to know what goes on behind closed doors). Otherwise, common sense is the key.

I just bought a one owner 1985 Euro 308 GTSi QV and am curious about parking. I've heard other F. owners comment on being careful about parking and almost all organized events have some kind of secured\supervised parking. I'm curious how careful you guys are when parking your cars at various locations.
