In a recent issue of Prancing Horse there was an article about a couple of Challenge racers who moved over to SCCA racing as it was less expensive, although no real numbers were given. Knowing several SCCA racers who run cars ranging from Spec Racers on up, I would be inclined to accept the $800K estimate for a baseline TransAm effort. |

I was told the 360 Challenge cost is close to $5,000 per race. The dealer pays for some of this but I don't know how much. The $5,000 pays for 2 spare tires, gas, trailering the car to the race, entry fees ,etc. The owner assumes full responsibility for any damage. I know of one dealer that has an extra 2001 360 Challenge car that is availble to rent. I believe the cost is $5,000 for the weekend. |

I've already looked into the SCCA Trans Am series and the Speedvision GT and Touring Series. It costs about $800k a year to run a team in the Trans Am series. You could probably run a Speedvision team for around $200k a year. Considering a 360 Modena Challenge costs $160k and I saw how many were wrecked this weekend. I'm sure Ferrari charges per event for every little thing. Have no doubts, this is a business for Ferrari. I think I'll try SCCA Club Racing, you can buy or build a Spec RX7 for $3-5k and then your weekend costs are about $400. |

Besides owning the car and being responsible for fixing anything. How much would the entire race weekend cost? |
