They're all yellow underneath from the factory. Instead of using a gray primer they use yellow. |

They always did use the yellow primer. With modern paints they don't need to, but I think they still do. Almost every pic you see from the factory has tons of yellow cars in it that are on the production line. |

I have owned a 79 512bb, and a 77 308gtb, and both cars had a yellow tint primer under the EuroLac Rosso Chiaro paint used back then.... Dave |

Anthony: I have several chips on my red TR and no yellow. I think your Dad is having a little bit of fun with you. Or better yet, the staff at the restaurant is yanking you and your father's chains. Michael PS: A 360 in any color is not doing too bad. By the way, why is the little smiley face above yellow -- I think it should be standard Ferrari red. |

Anthony, What year is your GTB? Im looking at an 86 now and have a few questions. Do your seat belt retractors have the leather trimmed covers on them? Ive seen these covers on every GTS Ive looked at, but theyre not on this car. Also, does your engine bay emit a faint fuel odor? Grazie. |

Yes, this has been discused here earlier and yes, the cars are yellow under that red. Larry's GT4 has stone chips and yellow pokes through (from what he mentioned). I love yellow Italian cars, they all seem to look so good in it. |

Hello, My Dad and I are always debating which is the best color for a Ferrari. He likes yellow and drives a yellow Testarossa, I love them both but depending on the model I am partial to red, I drive a red 328 GTB. With a new 360 Spider on order we have agreed on most of the options (ie Daytona Seats,Challenge Grill, SF Shields ) we still have not agreed on a color. He insists that the "real" color for Ferrari is yellow because it is the color of Modena, not red because it was the color given to Italian cars in general in the early days of Grand Prix racing. This past February my mom and dad had the opportunity to visit Maranello and tour the Ferrari factory. They had lunch at the Ristorante Cavallino on several occasions and became quite friendly with some of the staff (My parents were both born in Italy and speak fluent Italian) When the subject wasn't restaurants and Italian cooking (my parents own a Restaurant in New York) the spoke naturally of Ferrari. When the subject of color came up all agreed that that no one color was right or wrong when you are dealing with such beautiful works of art, but simply a matter a personal taste.(Though I belive certain models are best suited to certain colors in order to show off it's lines i.e a Testarossa looks much better in red or yellow than it does in white) One waiter insisted that though red was the more popular, yellow is the "real" color for 2 reasons: the first like I mentioned earlier is because this is the color of Modena, Secondly it is said that the reason Ferrai red is so deep and rich is because all red Ferrari's are first painted yellow before the red paint goes on, this allows for the magnificent hue and depth. When dad came home armed with this bit of information a huge debate ensued. I think he is pulling my leg just so he can order the 360 in yellow. I have a few small stone chips in my red 328 and do not see any yellow. Has anyone ever heard such a thing ? |
