Jerry, I wanted the 79 308 that I have because it was the last carb. model made. Also because I think it is one of the most beautiful Ferrari designs. That car sat for 18 yrs., in a dehumidified garage and since I bought it I have not had one problem with it. When I bought it the guy I got it from had a major service done on it from timing belts to lube door locks. I have enjoyed the car and I still am not one to drive it a lot. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe I just got a good one. BRGDS |

From what Ive read and seen in Forza and owning my Lotus's, 5 yrs is a good yardstick for a major service on Tbelts. Its money in the bank and also I read once that Ferrari actually recommends 3 times the normal maint for a car that does not get driven. Its definitely best to drive em. JMHO |

This was a topic for the group that met in Dallas last week. We talked about maint. intervals and the like. I have personaly seen cars that were in worse shape for not driving than driving. What do you think Magoo? |

I'm not up to date on 355 service, the belts wont be due and there are no valve adjustment intervals. What else could they really have to do at 15K? Coolant, A/C type stuff. |

I vaguely remember something like 50K miles or 8 years being the cut off date for T belts. I don't pay attention that much because I always assume by the time another 30K rolls around it'll be leaking oil or need something else done, so I would just do a service there. |

Is there a rule of thumb regarding calculating service intervals for low-mileage cars? I thought I recalled something like 1 year = 2,500 or 3,000 miles, so a 5 year old car should get its 15K service even if it only has, say, 5,000 miles (for example). Sorry if this is a stupid question - I searched and couldn't find anything in this forum or the Tech Q&A forum. The car in question would be a 1997-1999 355 Spider. Thanks, Doody. |
