I think he would be wise to get a stake in F1 itself. Bernie makes millions of dollars on TV rights and advertising. Or if Bernie won't sell, he could always buy Minardi or Arrows! :-)

think steve said it well - schumi already puts so much into the mgmnt of the team, that its not a reach to see him take the top seat. the drivers who failed to do well as owners or mngrs, were those who did not have the kind of hands on approach that schumi has.
to the others who have said he should exit etc. don't think that happens becasue he can set aside 50 mil to take care of his family etc. then he wants to continue to have some kind of lasting impact on the sport (not just any old blsht), and this is one way to do it. i also don't think he tries to reinvent the wheel (or car) by making one in his own image. if he buys that big a stake in ferrari, they will all have his imprint on them (can u imagine a better test driver for final approval......). he also cannot get this kind of leverage with another team. williams is not selling to him, nor would ron dennis.
furthermore, his ambition may go even higher, like aiming squarely at bernie and his monopoly.

This morning's LA Times has a blurp about Mario Andretti negotiating to buy the Newman-Haas team. What is it with these drivers that doesn't click ?. IMO the only ones who made it as owners were the unsuccessful or obscure drivers like Williams/Jordan/Penske...etc. Look at Lauda, he even owned and airline but stayed out of F1 ownership ! What's your take on this ?

So does this mean that Schumacher is the wealthiest professional sportsfigure in the world? I have heard many times of people speculating that Tiger Woods would be the first to top $1 billion. I guess these people don't acknowledge Forumla 1.

Hey, how about this idea. MS, upon retirement, starts a sports car company bearing his name. Wouldn't we all be interested in driving a Schumacher in the future? :-)

I read somewhere that Jean Todt was tapped for the top job if Montezemolo quit the company. As for what MS will do with his money, who knows? Scuderia Schumacher in sports car racing would be interesting.

If I were MS, I would move to Williams BMW and retire driving a German car. That is if Sir Frank will tolerate his ego.

He would be nuts to do it. Stewart sold his team to Ford. The smaller independent teams are dying slowly but surely. MS has better things to do and the last thing Id see him do is run a team. I dont think he will be the Ferrari Team Manager either. Who would want the headache? After the pressure he has been under Im sure he will find success in other fields or in a more relaxed role if its in F1 at all. JMHO

I've seen rumours about that too... some allegedly from within Ferrari... and I don't think anyone could do a better job. In many ways I think he DOES run the team already... his attention to detail and ability to motivate people is legendary - and he's clearly been the catalyst for Ferrari's success, just as he was at Benetton. I'd almost be more surprise if he DOESN'T take some sort of stake... but here's another thought... several of Ferrari's key people have contracts that end at the same time as Schumacher's. With his money and pulling power what odds on Team Schumacher? He could even get his Brother as number 2 driver...

while waiting for our helicopter out of silverstone last sunday, we resorted to reading the papers. in the article on the business side of f1, we read that schumacher's net worth as of 2001 was something around 450 million. at the same time we were wondering how long schumi will continue driving (i think he goes on for at least wc title #6), and then what will he do afterwards, given that he is still a young and very ambitious and competitive man. i made the suggestion that within the next 2 years (end of his contract), he will probably be worth around 600 million ($900 mil), and that with that kind of money you could really do something incredible. for example, buying a 35% stake in ferrari, and running the team himself, taking over from montezemolo et al. any comments?
