I agree, the demise of Arrows, Minardi, Jaguar would be bad for the sport, they simply can't afford 3 cars. If these smaller teams got more of the TV and advertising money that F1 attracts then they could be more competative. Example, Sauber uses last years Ferrari engine and most of it's rear suspension, but it doesn't have the funds to develop them. Sauber should be just as fast as the BMW's and Mercedes because those teams are still at last years level of performance. Ferrari has the money and has left the field behind! I think it would be boring if we lost the smaller teams, we'd be left with high speed parade laps by the same teams. |

The only problem is that very few teams could actually afford to field 3 cars, and you'd end up with 4 maybe 5 teams max, so a full field of 12 or 15 cars. That would certainly diminish the spectacle, and also limit the possibilities for up and coming drivers to get their race "training", with smaller teams. Remember many of the current big name drivers started with the smaller teams before being picked up by the big boys, |

I disagree. This will set the bick bucks out to spend more and truely you can see that Ferrari si leading so vastly right now, even if BMW had 3 drivers they would still be one minute late at the end of a race I like the way Arrows and Minardi is coming towards the front now. In essence there is two races in one. Just like the American Le Mans. You got Ferrari, Williams, BMW fighting up front and the others are fighting for the last points in the Championship. It is sad that these teams do not get as much TV coverage as the big teams. I must say I am an Arrows fan this season. It is great to see they are coming strong. I believe they have a chance to be with the top dogs once they get more financing.

bernie was quoted in the times saying that he thought the only way forward was to have 3 car teams (i agree with him and have been saying that for a while). there would only be 22 (maybe 24) cars allowed to race on sunday, so time trials on saturday will take on a much greater significance. this will mean the demise of minardi, arrows, jaguar and possibly jordan. but it will also mean that we will get closer racing and allow some great drivers better access to decent machinery (eg villeneuve, fisi). any comments? |
