Another good point about seeing how long the tread pattern has been out so you don't have to replace all four if you get a flat. I was also thinking about the dunlop sp8000s. Someone who owned the car before me changeed the factory rims to black bbs rims. They look nice but I really like the factory rims. One of you guys out there is driving around on my rims!!(just kidding).Hopefully someday I can 1.find a set of original rims and 2. afford them. So I will probably stick with 16" tires. |

Damn, now Anthony mentions that 16" are starting to get harder to find. I'm stuck up-s***-creek with my 14" Michelin XWX's. The only 70 series 14" tires left are Sears Roadhandlers made for Grandma's station wagon. I almost had a second choice of V-rated 70 series AVON Turbospeeds at a decent price, but looking at their website, I find out its discontinued. Looks like I have to break the bank and get a set of replica XWX's at big $$$ each. I wish you the best of luck Frederick (you are far more ahead of me). |

Fred, Anthony is correct. I was talking to a driver of a TR at the Cavallino Show in Palm Beach and he stated on the track the Dunlop 8000 is a good tire and outperformed his previous Eagles F1. The downside was slightly higher road noise in normal driving and a bit more slipping when wet. Just drive a little slower in the rain that's all. Michael |

Fred, I don't think you can go wrong with the potenza tires -- just make sure you get a tire that suits your driving. I do highway stuff and no track time so I wanted a more comfortable, cruising tire that can still handle high speeds -- not necessarily for heavy continuous braking and cornering. If you are a pleasure driver and only go up in the triple digits on good roads then the poetenza should do fine. If noise is an issue, look up the reports about road noise and user feedback on tireracks site. I would also check how long the tire model has been out -- specifically asked when last they changed the thread patterns. There are tires with the same name that are not compatible because of slight changes in the thread design. If tire model is more than 3 - 4 years old -- expect a change soon. read as -- if you get a flat within the next year you might be changing all four tires again. Michael |

Fred, High performance 16in tires (especially ones that will continue to be manufactured) can be hard to find these days since many new high performance cars are using 17" & 18" tires. My dad just replaced the original tires on his 87 Testarossa with 16" Dunlop SP 8000's. They are a notch below the 9000 series. So far he is very happy with them. They have performed great on the track and on the street, though we havn't experienced much wet weather driving since we had them installed, on dry days they are very comfortable and not at all noisy. If you change your wheels to 17" which is probably what I'm going to do on my 328GTB, you will have much more of a tire selection. Check out tirerack.com for the best prices, if you are on Long Island I can recomend a great palce to buy and mount new tires. |

I have just spent some time at tire rack .com. Michael you were right they don't even make the eagle F1s in my size. Thanks for the feedback. The bridgestone potenza re730 seems like a pretty good tire. |

Fred, Be careful of the goodyear eagle F1. They have been discontinued (at least for the TR) so any tire you see is an old one and cannot be replaced. I just had to replace four F1s because of a nail in one tire. The replacement tire is the Eagle HP (Z-rated of course) and they ride fine. Not really a race track tire but you can still go 140 plus comfortably on a good road. Stick and acceleration are good at lower speeds also. Sorry I know nothing specific about the 308 tires. I am going to be putting a set of tires on my car soon. It is a 83 308qv. I am thinking of eagle F1s or maybe michelin pilots but these are very expensive. I think tires are something you should not skimp on but if there is something just as good for cheaper I am fine with that. |
