I still would abide with the break in, but I know for sure that on Mercedes at least it is entirely unnecessary, or at least as per the mechanics at MBNA. I would still abide but it nonetheless with an MB. The Italians though I don't think have reached quite the level of over engineering yet though and would definitely be a good idea to break it in. They don't really race it in the test drive. From what I gather they pay attention more to rattles and things of that sort for the most part. |

An interesting private development of a 550 Barchetta hardtop. Why couldn't the factory do this? http://www.ferrariownersclub.co.uk/happenings/2002/march/550.html |

This will be fun to watch the reviews. Sounds like they had to actually buy it, but I wonder if FNA would let FerrariChat.com have a few cars to review. I would want a large sample of users to also test it. Anyone have connections? |

I suspect the problems us Ferrari fans have learned to live with will not bode well in a long term test by Edmunds. |

I follow it. Break in period is usually for the piston rings to seat well in the cylinders to prevent blow-by's and generate a compatible surface. I could be wrong, but that's my take. |

Does anyone really follow the break-in period of taking it easy on the engine and keeping it under 4000 rpm's ? What does that accomplish? Especialy after the test drive from a Ferrari factory driver that ( I would guess ) really puts the car through its paces. I would think if they raced the car for the first 50 miles... how is taking it easy going to help on the next 1000 miles? |
