Rob, you're right about the 200 messages. It seemed I couldn't communicate my position no matter how hard I tried. For a while I thought I was going to have to wear the " SCARLET A" or perhaps in this case the "SCARLET F". I really hope this clears up my position in a positive way RE: FERRARI. MAGOO. |

YOU're right, it probably isn't metric, but I thought it forced the guide out and did not go inside the guide sleeve. Oh well just a thought. Anyway I'm sure Nick has a machine shop and can R&R them. Just a thought. MAGOO |

Magoo, I have a Borla on my car...I don't intend to replace it with anything else. Also this tool you mention, it would have to be the EXACT size to work. A little smaller would make it wobble and f--- it up terribly. |

P.S. I still think this a great chat line and a great bunch of guys. Just try to understand what the other guy is saying. We all love the car its timeless designs and the thrills only a Ferrari can offer. We wouldn't have a FERRARI and wouldn't be part of this chat line if we weren't all in love with it. MAGOO |

Hey Guys, let me clear the air RE: problems with valve guides, clutch problems etc. with Ferrari's. Let me put it into language you will understand. I have a beautiful wife, classy, stylish, intelligent, top of the line, when we go out I can tell other men give her a glance, makes a guy feel good. However sometimes SHE IS A PAIN IN THE ASS. I love her however and have no intention of getting rid of her. As it is with my FERRARI. Now I hope this clears up this mess and we all understand. Sincerely MAGOO |

Bernard, Did the Tubi make the car faster? I have been considering the expense, but many have said the horsepower increase wasn't very recognizable. Tell us how you like the Tubi! |

10/4 If Nick says there is a better guide, by all means use it. I would trust anything this guy tells me RE: FERRARI. When a man lives his work like this guy, trust him. MAGOO |

PETER, As I mentioned previously, Ford had a great tool for that,I believe it was made by K&M. We used it on 351 Clevland and Windsor heads. The tool could be used in many applications other then just Ford. Do you have any pull with a shop foreman in a Ford dealership. Maybe you could borrow it. It worked great. It might work on your heads. If it does there is no guess work. Just thought I would put in my 2 cents. MAGOO |

Under TechQ&A: "soft valve guides". But Nick said once that he makes harder guides. This is what I meant when I said: "...I know who will do it for me". You miss-spelled Porsche...it should be: PORCH J |

Hey Buddy who was it on the chat line who said they used BRONZE guides in their Porche. I've used them before and had great results with them. MAGOO |

Magoo...I haven't decided yet. I have yet to pop the valves out of the heads, so I'll make the decision then. At least I know who will do it for me. I think they can be hammered out by hand just like a twin-cam Fiat (with a special tool of course to fit perfectly in the bore). But I don't trust that, I'm very sure you'd need a press to do a neat job. We were gutting a utilty trailer at work that had a whole bunch of neat tools, an arbour press included, in it (for repairing helicopter engines out in the field), alas, the tools weren't being hucked out... so nothing to add to my workbench! For work of course...J I will be lapping the valves myself... a must! |

BERNARD, There is no need to dwell on the bad things. The FERRARI gives an uplift to the soul that no other car can achieve. This is our diversion and happiness and gives us something special to look forward to. Your comments speak well and sum it up beautifully. Some times nut and bolt discussion can get depressing other times it can be very helpful when we need it. Regards MAGOO |

The weather in the UK this winter has been so wet! Not too many opportunities to enjoy the Ferrari. Today, the weather was sunny & dry, perhaps one of the best of the year so far. We had decided that being a holiday, if the weather was good we would take the GTS Turbo for a trip, for no other reason than to drive & enjoy. During the winter I've fitted a "low key" Nakamichi CD system & a TUBI exhaust. This is the first real journey with the TUBI, I didn't know if I'd like it, too loud, too harsh, who knows? We started at the coffee shop, sitting outside, the car across the road parked in the sun, the Ferrari Chat Forums tales of woe & unreliabilty at the back of my mind! We thought that we would visit a couple of local Ferrari dealers just to add to the fun, new 360's & 550's always brighten the day. So we set off, within the first 20mins we took a tunnel under the River Thames, perhaps 1/4 mile long. Down with the windows, into 2nd & up with the rev's!! The noise was delicious! Up shifts, down shifts, blips of the throttle! Childish but fun. We looked at 360's, 355 F1s, 348's, Boxers, TR's the whole montage during the day! Dreaming, calculating repayments, deciding on the colour's. But everytime we got back into "Our Ferrari" I smiled more each time. With "T's & P's in the green" that sticky 2nd gear was gone, the engine sung & it all made sense. I've made 100's of totally unnecessary gear changes, I've burn too much fuel for the miles covered, & I've just spend 2 hours cleaning a car for no reason other than the pleasure of cleaning a car that was designed with passion & made with pride, by a company that build dreams for lucky ones to drive & others to admire or perhaps aspire to. I don't car if the valve guides are soft, the electrical system does not have the integrity of a BMW's,the build quailty is somewhat less than a Mercedes & the £ per perfomance is less than for a 'vette. I have my Ferrari for "days like these"! |
