The Fram filter has the standpipe in it but for some reason the oil pressure still takes forever to come up where as the UFI filter pressure comes up almost instantly on my 308.

It more than likely DOESN'T have a standpipe in it, that is the key. No standpipe means no oil in the filter and thus no oil delivered to the bearings on start-up....Probably the greatest stress put on an engine, so you must have oil present.

There are lots of filters that would fit because of that threading, the Ford F-250 comes to mind. But they mount the filters conventually, negating the use of a standpipe.

Has anyone tried a Mobile 1 oil filter. I see they make it to fit 308's and 328's. Steve

UFI is the Ferrari brand oil filter. The Baldwin B253 is the other reasonable oil filter option for the inverted mounting applications.

I have had one friend whose new filter actually started spewing oil on the rear window of his 328. Since their is a problem with this brand, why not just do it the easy way and put a Ferrari brand back on the car and forget about the problems. This sounds like the easy solution

If UFI filters are becoming "questionable", which oil filter do you suggest for a 1989 328 GTS?

However SML, PETER makes a good point. Ask whatever source where you find the UFI's if there is a recall, bulletin, or any warning about using these filters. You could try lubeing both sides of the gasket prior to installing it but there still could be a problem with a distortion of the seat of the filter. All that said ,YOU BE THE JUDGE. MAGOO

No I haven't forgotten about it. Also do you remember that we were told of a fix to lube both sides of the gasket and no problem occured. MAGOO

Magoo, have you forgotten already the discussion on failing UFI filters (ref. TechQ&A: "328 spewing oil")? Baldwin B253!

SML, go to TQ&A, scroll down to ENGINE BONNET SUPPORTS there is info there RE: bonnet gas struts. UFI has always been hard for me to find locally. T Rutlands or Nick Scianna have them. MAGOO

The engine and luggage bonnet pneumatic springs on my 1989 328 GTS have lost their willingness to hold-up the bonnet. Can anyone suggest a parts supplier? I need two, and would prefer to replace existing springs with original OEM parts. Also, on oil filters, the OEM used UFI, but having a tough time getting them from local "auto stores", any suggestions?
