Interesting, looks like my 308 may have a diet in order for it. |

My Europa weighs 1550 pounds. The only steel in the car is the backbone frame which doesn't weigh much. The body is completely fiberglass and I'm dead meat in any side collision. Aluminum head, steel block, 1.6L 4 banger. The car is much smaller than a 308 too and is really a race car with power windows and carpet. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to see that a real frame, real doors, real dash, real bumpers, big old exhaust, a/c, 3L V8 engine would add up to another 1400 lbs. My Pontiac Fiero was 2800 pounds so I think the 308 at 3000 is actually pretty light. |

Each bumper weighs 50 lbs and each bumper shock weighs 3lbs. Save about 5lbs (per) replacing koni's too. Stock Wheels and tires weigh a ton as do Cats and stock muffler There's 170 lbs no longer on my car.

I don't need my spare, at least as of now. I never go further away with the Ferrari than my dad could easily drive out with the spare, jack, etc. I don't even have a jack, lug wrench, etc in it (note to self, get them and put them in). But I figure the front is already light, it's better with any weight in it that it has. If you were to remove the bumpers (replace with fiberglass) and replace the muffler, would you feel the weight difference? You can definitely feel when someone is riding with you and when no one is. |

I have a Countach Frame (skeleton) that I've been told (guessing?) weighs about 600-650lbs. Drivetrain (+ rear suspension and all that) has to be at least the same weight. That puts it at 1300lbs conservatively. Add the front suspension (steering rack), wheels, tires, interior (including bonnet & flooring) and GLASS! Maybe that's 2,000+ lbs. without ANY body panels. just a thought. -Ben PS. anyone want the Countach frame, I need to get rid of it, contact me privately if you are interested. |

For many models, the single heaviest component sits in the front left seat. Don't forget about the massive amount of fluids these cars haul around. Although they are not big cars, they are built pretty solid. My Fiat 124 Spyder weighed 2400lbs. and I used to ask the same question about that little car. |

My 77 308gtb last weight with me in it, a full tank of gas, extra oil, water, tools, assorted crap in the trunk is 3275 lbs. I come in at 200 lbs. and all the crap adds up to about 40 lbs. So I'm guessing my car to be about 3035 lbs with a full tank of gas... The quickest was to loose a few pounds in a 308 is to replace the stock muffler with a light aftermarket model, same goes for the front and rear bumpers. Remove the spare tire, and the A/C. Those are the quickest weight savers for a 308... |

I was thinking about it a little today, where is all this weight coming from? They're like 3200lbs the last I heard (although no one seems to have a concrete answer, anybody weight theirs?). There is nothing really substantially built in the car that I can think of. Nothing in the interior, I would imagine the body would be of relatively light weight, the engine is all aluminum for the most part, it's got mag rims, and it's tiny. I mean it has the steel tube frame, but other than that... Why does my car weigh so much? |
