Dino was from his son. Great ride Russ. If it does rain dont forget to turn the wipers on. Thats why they have them on the car. Have fun. Drive the car. |

Enzo also said: "Aerodynamics are for those who can't build engines." He obviously changed his tune to that one later too. He isn't God and his word isn't the Bible. If it says Dino on it, it's a Dino. If it says Ferrari on it, it's a Ferrari. |

Dino was not established to avoid problems with Alfa Romeo. If my memory serves me correctly the earliest Ferraris were called Auto Avio. I think the model # was 815. Dino didn't come about until the 6 cylinder racers of the mid-to-late fifties, and they were so named because Enzo's son Dino was involved in the design of the engine. As Ernesto points out Enzo Ferrari was alive and kicking when the decision was made to call the 308 a Ferrari rather than a Dino. It would be inconceivable to claim that he didn't know and approve of the change. |

Nor did Enzo call the 308 a Dino. And I guess if that theory were to hold, Ferraris F1-2002 Formula 1 racer, Ferrari's reason for existing in the first place, is not a real Ferrari either because of its V10. Please... companies are allowed to develop, improve, and even change the names of their cars. Ernesto |

The theory I read from Frank was that a Ferrari needs to have a V12 engine in front to be a "real" Ferrari. Anything else is a Dino. The whole theory, if I understand it correctly, assumes that if a car does not qualify, Enzo himself would have named it a Dino. This is interesting but not completely true since there is a big exception: the F-40. According to a book "Original Ferrari V8" (Keith Bluemel), Enzo himself, introduced the F-40 in 87 at a ceremony in Maranello. It was one of the last car if not the last car he introduced. The F-40 is a mid-engine V8. He certainly did not call it a Dino. I believe I read somewhere that Enzo used the Dino brand to workaround some legal constraints he had with his previous employer (Alpha Romeo) ACW |

Don't worry, the only person referring to 308s, 328s, 348s, 355s, 360s, and F40s as Dinos is Frank. The rest of the civilized world calls them by their proper name. I guess we all have to get used everyone's quirks. Ernesto |

Are you kidding? You can buy an assortment of 308/328/348's for the price of one good Dino GTS. It is my favorite Ferrari to drive, because it is a huge amount of fun, and looks like the Batmobile. |

Henry Ford > Edsel Ford > Edsel car=lower value than other Ford collectable cars. Enzo Ferrari > Dino Ferrari > Dino car=lower value than other Ferrari collectable cars. Is the above correlation correct? This seems to be a reoccuring undercurrent in numerous threads. |

Personally I'm with you Martin re this Dino thing. Yes we all know Sir Enzo said none of his cars w/out 12 cyls were real Ferrari's... thus he named our low-class V8s and V6s after his fine son. But geez, the last car he named Dino was 25+/- yrs ago. And the poor man has been dead since 1988.. I haven't seen one car come out of Italy with the Dino badge since. My car is a V8... I can't find even one reference on the car or in any of the manuals where it says Dino. The ONLY thing I see is Ferrari. Why would a guy as smart as Enzo put a Dino engine in his mega-project F40 supercar??? And he was directly involved in the development of that car. If we thought of car companies today the way we did 25 years ago, we'd still be driving Electra 225s, Caprices, Falcons and Ramblers!!!! No, I own a Ferrari. |

First off for those of you who asked, pictures will be forthcoming. I live in Maryland and my nearest Ferrari dealer is in Virginia. I needed to get a state inspection. I decided against the nearest gas station, and the local Honda shop. I picked the Lambo dealer about 30 minutes from my house (in Maryland) to do the inspection. I was a little tense on the drive out--it looked like it was about to rain. I was in bumper to bumper beltway traffic and I was thinking "I should have gotten the F-1." Anyway, all eventually went well, the car passed inspection, and the Lambo sales and service people were fawning over the 360 which was a nice feeling. The real story comes on the way home. The only flaw (which is not really a flaw) with this car is that it is difficult to drive slow!!! Anyway I am going about 80 on the DC beltway, which is about the flow of traffic. First a Woman in front of me in a del sol literally turns her head all the way around to see the car coming up next to her. She nearly ran off the road. I slowed down and changed lanes to get the hell away from her. Then I am in the second lane from the right (4 lane hway) going about 80 again, radar is clear, but I am constantly checking my side mirrors simply because I am not used to them. Anyway I see a cop flying up on my right hand side. I slow to about 65--he pulls right next to me, looks in my window, flips on his lights, (oh s**t I am getting a ticket on my first day with this car), turns his lights off, gives me a thumbs up smiles and exits the hway. I gotta tell you, you could not wipe the smile off of my face all the way home. On a seperate note, my wife wanted to "help" with the car, and apparantly started to clean the outside of the car with a swifter while I was at work. I think I may need to start driving to the office. The more I drive the car the more I love driving it. It is, to be honest, hard to put into words. |
