Not to jump on the band wagon, but I have been thining along Martin's lines as well while watching this. Although I've driven a TR before, by no means am I an expert with them. This could be a great daily driver, but I for one wouldn't bid on it without seeing it in person, bringing someone that knows them, etc. It could be a steal, it could be a lemon, you never know. But for the price it would be worth checking IMO.

I have been accused of being too harsh in my eBay statements to deadbeat bidders as well. It is easy to get frustrated. Unfortunately I think he will more likely find a deadbeat bidder that way that will bid and not perform than by requesting that any bidder with 0 to 2 feedback will be cnacelled unless he has been pre-approved.

I understand his frustration and do not feel negative about these statements. Been there, done that!

As far as the car, you get a TR for $ 42K, what do you expect? A concourse ready car? Come on guys, you alsways say that a TR is worth over $ 60K, here you have one for $42,000, $18,000 under budget. Get and engine cleaning for $300 and a hood adjustment and have the front spoiler fixed for $ 300. Clean the carpets and you got yourself a great driver for really what others want for a 328. Heck, I would buy it if I had the extra $$$ right now.

I looked at the eBay history on this car and the first buyer in January (ferrari-kid) that welched on paying, gave praise to the seller for understanding. Of course, after buying that $57,100 HUMMV, I guess he changed his mind.

In addition, the second guy in late February (b-charles) did not pay after sell because seller supposedly did not send more pictures of the car so he called to cancel bid. I thank he got cold feet.

I have to say that I do not blame this guy for his harsh "sales pitch", to a degree. However, he should keep in mind that if he wishes to attract the type of buyer for this kind of car, it might help to swallow a bit.

What a joke. How did this waste of life get his hands on a TR!

The car needs some TLC, like the missing right side tunnel cover ( Wires showing ). But the front carpet in the boot is not as bad as you may think. First, the carpet on the floor of the boot is wrong, but the stain around the brake resv is on my Grey carpet boot also. I do not think it is from the brake fluid, but from the rubber gasket and it shows on only the grey one's. I spent a few $$ more than most on an 86, but I have been very lucky. Just a few of the needed inter parts could put you back a few grand if you could find them. On these cars, it's better to let the guy you are buying it from make it perfect vs you trying to. You will go broke.

I saw that car last week on Ebay. I don't know him, but in his defense it is VERY frustrating and costs us(EBAY sellers) alot of money when people "keep playing around" and send hundreds of rediculous questions through email. I sell many high end camera lenses and when someone wins and doesn't pay, I STILL pay! alot of stuff I sell is quite costly, but nothing like a car. Ebay fees for a car are rediculous. And, if it keeps happening it can get very expensive. Also people will ask tons of questions just because bidding and talking about exotic things makes them feel imporatnt. This guy might have gone overboard, but if the price is right take the car for what it is. He is probably just fed up w/ deadbeats.

I really don't think the car looks that bad for the price at all. If I were a bidder on this car though the low price would actually be my biggest problem. To be willing to let it go for no reserve there must be something wrong with it. The cheapest TR could quickly become very expensive. What a tacky piece of writing BTW...........his not mine.

Scott,

Well the front chin being scraped doesn't bother me as much as some. The brake fluid on the carpet is one sure item that bugs me, not because you have to buy new carpet, but what happened to cause that (much) spill? Also there seems to be multiple shades of carpet in the trunk (maybe not a big deal). The glove box looks as tho it's not closed right and it kinda looks like a different color. Also in the pic from the pass side behind the center console under the dash you can see wiring, there is a panel missing there, I'm pretty sure that's true even for this model year. In the pic of the engine bay, besides it being rather dirty (would think he could have cleaned it up for pictures), see the coolant expansion tank - in my eyes in looks as tho there has been some coolant issuses - there is some discoloration at the top. Also missing are the "coil covers" (SPC offical name "Protection for power module pn#128169) and well those are there to protect for a reason (moisture etc.)...
Makes me think there is more stories under the surface.

-Ben

PS. the front spolier and side skirts are not normally "body color" not that it's a bad thing.

Ben, at some point I would like to move up from my 308 to a TR; I'm just curious as a current owner of a TR what are the "issues" you are refering to from the photos. I see slight damage to the front spoiler and the brake fluid stains on the carpet caught my eye but just wondering what you see that I a prospective buyer might look for in the future, Thanks

Without even reading the text I can see a few "issuses" I would have with this car based on the pics alone. Reading the text didn't help matters. Altho $40k.... MAY NOT be a bad price. Not that I would buy it (or anything from this guy).

An amazing collection of other "high-line" and "exotic" automobiles on this dealer's lot. I gotta get up to Boston & get me a Cavalier.

Hey, sounds like some ex-wrestler is now selling cars! I guess he'll get ya in a headlock & go(insert wrestling quote here} on ya ass. This type of selling strategy has my vote. I hope his mother didn't bid.

His language and wording is great. It sure makes you want to spend 40K on this car.
