OK, Here's the response by the gentlman from the dealership in PA. It coincides with John's comments. Joe, I know carfax won't take it but that's because the US VINs didn't get standardized until the mid 80's as I recall. Is there some other reason it doesn't check out? I've attached a picture of the plate...somehow the link got broken when I posted the ad (ebay motors is a real pain in the butt or maybe I'm just too new at it). When I took the pic of the plate, I missed the last digit, which is a "3". If you know why it doesn't check out, I'd appreciate knowing. Thanks, Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2002 6:14 PM Subject: Question for seller -- Item #1810389624 > Hello, > > The VIN for this car does not check out. Could you please check and see if there was a error. Also the picture of the data plate will not display. > > Thanks, Joe Duch

My '80 308GTBi, has GTB dash emblem. I've also seen the same on other GTBi and GTSi cars. It is normal. |

The data plate won't come up because of a typo. http://64.49.221.202/pix/jemorehouse/vinf.JPG is the correct url for it. Hope this helps Not mine/no financial interest/etc. |

I just went through this with the state of Washington on my 1980 GTSi. VIN numbers did not officially start until 1981. They started with the letter "B" in the 10th position. (Must have had the government in on this one) Carfax and all other vin finders will come up with an invalid vin number if the 10th letter is an "A" for 1980. |

Hey guys, I just ran a Carfax on the VIN listed as ZFFAA02A9A0033573 and this was the response: The VIN you supplied, "ZFFAA02A9A0033573", is invalid. A VIN must be exactly 17 characters long; the letters "I", "O", or "Q" never appear. I went to the pictures of the car on eBay and the only picture that will not load for me is the Data plate? I also noticed that the back of the car displayed a 308GTSi emblem and the dash emblem was a 308 GTS only. Is this normal? So I went to FCANW website ://www.ferrariclub.com/faq/vin.html where it explains how to determine the model by the VIN and everything checked out. It said the 9th digit is a check digit that was from 1-9, so I tried 1-9 and when I used 5 it said: The VIN you entered: ZFFAA02A5A0033573 is invalid. However, the VIN you entered is very close to those listed below. ZFFAA02A5C0033573 1982 Ferrari/308 GTSi/3.0L V8 EFI DOHC 16V (Substituted: C in position 10) When I used 7 it said: The VIN you entered: ZFFAA02A7A0033573 is invalid. However, the VIN you entered is very close to those listed below. ZFFAA02A7B0033573 1981 Ferrari/308 GTSi/3.0L V8 EFI DOHC 16V (Substituted: B in position 10) That is the closest it came to properly IDing the car. Do I smell tuna? On the other hand, is it a Typo? Either way this dealership should be able to get it straight if it is only an error. What do you think? I wrote them an email to ask them to check the VIN. I will post their response when they do. Joe

If you click on the link to his web site it shows that he had it listed at his dealership for $26,900. He also had listed a early QV for less, like $24,000. People go nuts when they see low miles |

I just read his post. I think the water was at least up past the speakers. It is already up past 15K on the bidding. I am surprised. |

I don't agree with the mileage on this one. Check out the interior. It is quite faded. It almost looks as if it has had water damage. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1810389624 |
