This is Speed channel press release.

SPEED Channel Announces F1 Broadcast Lineup

Charlotte, N.C., February 25

SPEED Channel will again be home to Formula One racing in the United States, announcing it has reached an agreement to air live practice, qualifying and race coverage for nearly the entire 17-race Grand Prix schedule in 2002.

"Formula One racing is an important part of SPEED Channel's core programming," said network President Jim Liberatore. "Having just moved past the 50-million household mark, I think it is important that we continue to demonstrate a commitment to being the premier television destination for all motor sports fans, and our F1 package certainly supports that philosophy."

Veteran broadcaster Rick DeBruhl will lead the cast of SPEED Channel on-air talent, calling play-by-play, with analysis from former F1 driver David Hobbs and former F1 mechanic Steve Matchett. Peter Windsor will provide reporting from the paddock.

SPEED Channel's Formula One season kicks off Thursday, Feb. 28 with practice from the Grand Prix of Australia at 9 p.m. (ET). SPEED Channel will provide live race coverage of 16 of the 17 events, with enhanced coverage of the United States Grand Prix. Most races will be replayed on same-day tape at 10 p.m. (ET) -- check local listings.

SPEED Channel, the nation's fastest growing sports cable network, is the first and only 24-hour cable network devoted exclusively to motor sports and the human fascination for speed. In addition to extensive original NASCAR programming, SPEED Channel is home to much of the world's marquee racing events including CART, F1, Classic Cars, LeMans, the American LeMans Series, World Rally and car shows from around the globe. Currently seen in more than 50 million homes, SPEED Channel was acquired by Fox Cable Networks Group in July 2001.

Who were the idiots who commentated the USGP last year? I don't think they had watched a single race before that one.

On a previous thread Paul Sloan posted a press release from speedvision stating that they were covering 16 of the 17 races. Surely the Indy race will be on ABC (all the more reason to be there) But the thought of them doing more than one race, let alone Monaco makes me ill!

While watching the race with a friend last weekend, my friend mentioned that Speed Channel will only show 13 or 17 races this year. I am assuming one of those races will be the INDY race on ABC. Does anyone know what the other 3 races are and if they will be shown by some other network or not?
