John;

They are electronic and take a pulse from a sensor and then pass it to the odometer and then to the speedo. Even if the two are in the same case, they run independent of eachother. This is to discourage shutting off the odometer, because you would also stop the speedo from working. The new digital odometers / Speedo's use a computer that will record the miles even if the speedo is disconected at the display unit, however if it is removed at the source (pulse sensor) the car will not run as the computer will be missing an important input.

They run off the same gear, but they are separate linkages/set ups. So, they work independently of each other essentially.

My speedo sits at 10 but doesnt move from there no matter how fast I am going as well. I have to have the damn thing either rebuilt or buy a new one. Funny how the odometer and trip odometer keep clicking away but the speedo is just dead in the water. Anyone have a clue as to what linkage this might be? From what I understand trip odo, odo, and speedo are all on the same linkage from the gear box. Am I wrong here?

Mine is 10 fast at every speed from 0 to ludicrous speed. My odometer racks up miles fast as well. I still stand by the fact that I think the Italians don't miss a trick and higher odometers mean more servicing.

Warren:

Mine does the same thing. I think that is the way they planned it, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why.

My 360 speedo rests at 0, but is too fast by 10mph compared to a friend 996. Really sound like a cool ferrari feature to avoid tickets

Its amazing how far off speedos are. New BMW speedos are usually off by ~10mph at speeds over 100.

An old Ferrari feature... makes you feel like you're going fast even when you're standing still.

Warren, mine rests at 10, it is also VERY optimistic. I radar checked mine and at an speedomoter indicated 100mph, it radars at 89MPH. I have checked other F355 and this is a fairly consistent condition... At lower speeds is less optimistic, but is at least 5 mph fast.

I think all Ferrari speedos rest at 10, but im positive every F355 speedo rests at 10, you have nothing to worry about.

I recently took possession of a 355B and noticed that the speedometer is not resting at 0 mph when the car is at stand still. The needle rests at 10mph but works perfectly after I pass the 10mph mark. Is this a common problem? Why does this happen?

Thanks in advance for your response.
