I have to concur with Mark. No way can a 308 motor put out 400HP in a streetable configuration with good reliability. My current project uses a 328 engine which has been bored (re-sleeved) to a 348 (85 mm pistons), with specially made J&E pistons / rings, the heads have been fully ported and polished, and compression has been upped to 11.5:1. The engine management is via a fully programmable Motec 48 unit to run both the EFI and Ignition. Also, I'm running custom, free-flow headers, no cats, and a Borla exhaust. With all this, I will only make 340HP at 7700RPM. ...which is far beyond the drivable capability of a 308 engine --- even 4-valve. |

I'd have to think that if he's going to get 400 hp it's more than a blueprint. It sounds like a full race prep with peak power (and redline I hope) up around 9000. Engines like that are a lot of fun but tend not to live to long if you shift up there. It's a E=mv2 thing, the bearing/piston/valve loads go up with the square of the the rpm plus the % torque increase. They are fun while they last though. With a turbo/blower motor you can leave the rpm alone so you only get the %torque change load increase. They live much longer. |

Paul Sloan is blueprinting his engine to 400HP without turbo chargers. All upgrades in engine and tranny. I can not wait to see his car in Homestead on the track. |

Arlie, eBay is a great source. I would say you can find them also if you shop around at the autotrader.com and in some local shops. 308s are everywhere. Unfortunately most are beaters.

Sorry for the delay. I did a basically stock rebuild and put a blower and after market EFI/ignition on top. The whole job was about $8k with me doing all the work. If I had to guess, I'd say double it to hire it done.

Me k: What kind of $$$ do you have in the engine? I can't imagine a 'good' 350HP turbo Ferrari engine costing any less than 25K alone... |

I settled for the HP and GTO front valance and bumper. You can fit GTO size tires in the stock fenders, I have 18x8.5 with 225/40 front and 18x10.5 with 283/35 rear. I think it made the car look better, I now it goes better. |

I think really well done GTO clones are pretty cool. Nobody tries to pass them off as real GTO's, but they do look very cool and if the suspension and engine are modified for higher performance I can see one being a really fun track day car. I would love to have a 350hp GTO conversion. I would really love it if I could find one for $35K or less! Most of the good ones I have seen, with the engine, suspension and brake modifications, go for pretty big money. That said, the cost of one of these top quality conversions would be so high that I think you would lose a lot of money doing the conversion to sell. GTB cost $20K, conversion cost $50K, final product sells for $55K-$60K secondhand. When I say $50K for the conversion I am assuming you pay someone else to do all the work and including a full engine/trans rebuild to 350hp specs and full suspension rebuild with racing brakes... Heck you could spend $70K on the conversion! |

As for the GTO, if your car has body issues, which is likely will not if you own a body shop, I would do it. If it has a great body don't, rather look for a beaten up 308 and do it. Hard to find straight 308s.

I think Pam would go from a 5 to a 7 if you take her mods away. I really did like her when she was with Tim Allen in Homeimprovement. Then she looked real. |

Do I detect a contradiction here? Swap on a set of aftermarket wheels and it lowers the resale value. Carve up a GTB into a GTO and the hack-job becomes an asset worth more? I thought originality was the all-hallowed asset, with aftermarket mods a denegration? I am dazed and confused. If I bob the ears and tail of a beagle, will it make him a better watchdog because he looks like a doberman? |

I find it so hard to do that to A ferrari. Gto 's were Gto's and Gtb's are Gtb's. Thats the way GOD (Enzo?) wanted it. |

I would try Butch at Italian Design and Racing in Phoenix. His number is 480-968-0421 for the body panels. |
