They like to oversteer quite a bit. Race them more like go karts. There's a bunch of sliding, but too much scrubs speed. |

WOW! That was great.. I use to own a 79 then a 83 RX-7..those cars can sure take a beating... I have one question for you.. With the rear of these cars being so light, how are you able to stop it from sliding all over the tracks? DO use weights on the spare tire whole |

Darn those pesky Miata's. Great video. it's amazing once you start racing that you realize it isn't about horsepower but driver skill and weight. I race a Spec Racer Ford with "only" 105 horsepower. But the car weighs only 1670 pounds and that little 1.9 liter Ford engine can really push the car through corners. At Watkins Glen the lap record is about a 2:06 on the long course for a 355 Challenge with 380+ hp and loads of downforce. The Spec Racer minus nearly 280 hp can do the same lap in a respectable 2:14, only 8 seconds slower and consider that the top speed on a Spec Racer is about 130-135, while the 355 Challenge will easily see 150 mph on the back straight and 130-135 on the front straight. This was the final lap in our SRX7 Saturday race at Texas Motor Speedway. My car is an '83 RX7 with about 110 HP at the rear wheels. The class keeps them stock, except for exhaust and we can remove all emmissions stuff on carb, remove the fan, and remove the A/C, and add a spec. race suspension. Most of the expense is the saftey stuff like roll cage, racing seat, 5 point belts, and fire system. They're really fun cars to race at 2200 pounds. The file is 32 Mb. http://ferrarichat.com/spec7.org/videos/TMS020713SRX7.mpg |
