I've got the old metric 390's on my 75 Dino GT4. I can't justify spending the money on XWX rubber though. For that kind of money I can upgrade to the QV 16's. So before the car goes on the road I'm buying the 16's. They look excactly like the metric so it keeps the same look and feel to the car, just updates the rubber and fills the wheel well better. |

David, When I got my car, there was still one original XWX mounted. The other three were mounted in 1986 as indicated on the service slips. I too have kept my 14 inch wheels and mounted new XWXs in April. I have all the old tires down in the basement also. As Magoo has pointed out, keeping these old tires help document the car's true milage. Barry |

I've still got the original 14s" on my 77gtb. I kind of like the old school look. When I got the car it had the original xwx's. They were scary. I still have them in my basement. Here's the question. Is there any point in saving these old original tires? They are drivable in the sense that you could drive the car on a lawn at a concourse. I myself wouldn't use them but maybe a future owner? I'm kind of thinking that I would like to get rid of them, but I don't want to find out later that they were worth $8000. Thoughts? Opinions? |

My 85 308qv was sold to the original owner with a set of Compomotive modular wheels that the dealer put on the car. I wonder what happened to the wheels. John |

I think it important to not forget the 390mm factor here. I have an original set of 390mm wheels for my 308 that are in perfect condition. I use them only for shows, as the TRX tires are clearly inferior to the stickier modern compounds. There are several places available to pickup 16 inch QV wheels- they are even being manufactured again. I replaced mine with a more attractive, (at least to me), alternative. Jeff |

Dave, you left out the part about wearing the German field marshall helmet during the ritual. By the way, do you know a source for reproduction deer antlers to go on Ferrari altars? My original antlers are looking a bit ragged from all the Italian candle smoke. |

Dave, I gaurantee down here in Oz I can findyou a heap of original 14 inch rims. If anyone wants to buy mine I'll send them to you. They also make good hose reels, coffee tables, anchors.... |

I have an alter built of original 14" wheels, and late at night I pour 50 weight oil all over it and run around it naked making zoom sounds... that's where most of them went. My 308 came with the dealer optional BBS racing wheels offered long ago in a galaxy far far away, But I have access to a set of original Ferrari 14" wheels for a 77 308 not more than 4 min. from my house... So you see, sometimes you don't have to travel to Oz to find Ferrari wheels, they just might be in your own back yard.

yeah it is weird - even if its the tires most f-car owners are orginality sensitive and you would think they kept the wheels. Though since they are expensive they might have sold them but it does not answer the question of where are they now |

Ken, I believe you're right on here...as I recently upgraded to 17" wheels for my BB. Seems that the big, low profile 15" tires are no longer available, despite many calls to the tire manufacturers. The old wheels...Hmm, they'd make very pretty, albeit expensive coffee tables?? David |

I believe tires are the issue; the older 308 wheels take some obscure tire size so people tend to buy new wheels. Can anyone flesh out the details on this? But you're right, where ARE the wheels? |

It seems that many 308/328s that I see for sale are now equipped with aftermarket wheels. And many times the ads mention that the original wheels are gone. This brings to mind the question: Where are all those original wheels? Where did they go? Even a badly wrecked car would still have several good wheels after a total loss part-out. So where is the secret warehouse stacked full of these missing original wheels? |
