Darius, an ECU stands for Electronic Control Unit. Basically a generic term describing the computer that controls engine function and can also control transmission, suspension, brakes, etc... The "brain" of the car.

Darius,
I have had 2 different 348's. They are a fantastic car. The best advice I could give you is to look for a 1993 or 1994. As far as performance, (as all I really care about is how the car is on the track) the 348 is a fantastically predictable, and reliable car. When set up properly, (suspension) it handles like it is on rails. Only a very well driven 355 would be able to beat me on the track when I still had my 348. The TR, is a pig on the track, and is a great car for running around town. The 355 is a better car on the track, but unless you can literally squeeze 101% out of the 348 on the track, you would never know. As far as bang for the buck, the 348 is a fantastic way to go.
As for ecu, electrical bugs, and other annoyances, I can simply say that I have only had one problem with either of my 348's, and that is the slowdown light comes on when you burn out the cat relay. This is a common problem which typically affects tracked cars, due to the heat generation built up in the cats.
I am jelous of the prices in the H.K. market. My friend just bought a 1994 spyder with 4,000 km for $56,000 USD. Best of luck.

Thanks guys. In my budget, i have factored in regular maintenance costs. However, I don't expect to pay a massive bill for any electric problems. Also, can you please tell me what's an ECU?

In my parts of the world (Asia), a 348 can be purchased at around US$40g to US$50g while the 355 are double. Also, the ferraris here are hardly driven.

The model I am considering has only 15,000 km.

Any more comments?

DARIUS,
IF YOU CAN WAIT FOR THE NEXT BONUS GO FOR A 355, A BETTER ALL AROUND CAR BY FAR. IF YOU CAN'T WAIT GO FOR A 328 OR A TESTAROSSA. THE TESTAROSSA WILL REWARD YOU WITH GOBS OF POWER AND DROP DEAD LOOKS, THE 328 HANDLES LIKE A GO-CART AND IS BULLET-PROOF IF YOU BUY ONE PROPERLY MAINTAINED. I HAVE A 328 GTB MY DAD HAS A TESTAROSSA, MY UNCLE HAS A 348 ts AND IS ALWAYS ASKING TO BORROW ONE OF OURS !!!

Darius,

Before you cash-in that hard earned bonus for the 348, search this site for various feedback from 348 owners. Also, look at
http://ferrariclub.com/faq/348versions.html to understand the differences of models of 348s.

"reliable" as compared to ??? no, it's not as reliable as a Toyota or even a Porsche, but those cars don't have that certain exhaust note that distiguishes a ferrari from the rest! Most owners will tell you that they've had problems with the alternator, ECU, engine slow down light, slow up/down windows, etc.

The 348 is a great car. Much faster than the 308/328 and some of the Testarossa looks. Some downsides are problematic electronics, but once the money has been paid to sort it out, then everything is great. Lately, the 348 and Testarossa have been hit with the highest depreciation. What it does in the future no one knows. I had looked at 328's and 348's, I asked the local shop how much I should expect to pay on average per year. They said about $1k for the 328 and closer to $2k for the 348.

Got my bonus. Wife is letting me to buy a car. And budget is right for a 348.

Any comments on a 348? Is is reliable? Cost of maintenance? etc...

I recently saw a red/tan ts but the tan is actually cream color. Is this right?
