I formally agree with Greg Owens about GM making crapphy cars with bad materials..I wouldnt be caught dead in a GM car, but I would like to see cars that focus more on reliability rather then accessories, as most of you have said. But I think that if you can put accessories in a car and get them to work and be reliable then go for it...I.E. Cup Holders not breaking and that annoying service light coming on all the time

I'd also like to see smaller and lighter cars. that'll make them more city friendly and boost performance instead of adding more motor, brakes, etc to handle more weight.

I agree with Peter. Sports cars don't need a large assortment of buzzers and idiot lights.

I agree with most so far. My adders:
1. a factory built in Radar detector or a least a 12V outlet behind the rearview mirror. Would the lawyers let this happen?

2. an alarm system that you can completly shutoff.

Tim, I'll re-iterate the comments posted here already, that there should be LESS electronic junk in the cockpit. People can't drive as it is, they are crashing more now with f---ing cell phones (and I'll go to my grave without ever owning one, that I promise...) and now they want to add these entertainment centres? Enough! You are driving, not in the office or in your living room! Save the video games for the kids in the back seat, the driver already has a video game in front of him on the road!

End of rant... I feel better now.

What I would most like to see in a new Ferrari is a F1 inspired V10! Come on already I think that over a decade of the V10 dominating F1, should win it a place in a road going Ferrari! Keep the engine in the rear, and nothinig but semi-auto gear boxes. Another thing lets see electro actuated pneumatic valves in that baby. Set the rev limit to 12,500 rpm. Oh what music that would produce at speed. That is what I would like to see Ferrari do. Oh yes and build it to last, and last, and last some more! It's time Ferrari takes it to the next level again.

I haven't riden in the 550 or 456, but the 360's and 355's I've driven and riden in are pretty sparse compared to the other luxo and exotics out there, but, Ferrari's build quality and driving experience are second to none. That's what counts. I love my 308 because of the hand-built touch.

I agree with the others that the gimicks and gadgets are unnecessary crap. GM is the worst about overloading thier cars with useless crap, cheap materials, and shoddy construction.

Better paint quality and much more durable.
Higher quality materials. I'm tired of looking at cars that cost 80-100K and seeing acres of plastic. Hell, a 79 Rolls has better materials than any new car, the rest of the car is sh*t though. A stereo that actually works with the top down. A feeling of quality throughout the automobile. Design that is distinctive. Sports cars are better than most, but sedans ALL look the same.

My vote re: Ferrari would be for de-contented variants of their two-seat models. Think street legal 360 Challenge car and a 550 of similar philosophy. With more and more customers tracking their street cars of late, I think a market exists for cars like these were they to be made available.

Ferrari Roadside Assistance is already in place.

I think timing belts will be replaced by chains for future Ferraris because of their work on the Maserati Spyder (if that could serves as a guide).

1. A no-compromise powertrain would be my first choice as Ernie suggested.
2. Better structural integrity so that the cars don't start making noises until at least a couple 100K miles.
3. How about spoilers that do not crack, or burst into pieces when you rub them the wrong way, and that still do their job effectively.
4. Leather that does not need to be conditioned so often.
5. Paint that does not develop swirl marks to easily will be very nice, specially on darker color cars, and that can resist stone chips a little better.
6. Warranty for the Ultra/High performance tires.
7. Ferrari road assistance program (do they have one already?)
8. Timing belts that would last a few 100K miles would be nice.
9. Water pumps that would last just as long.
10. Clutches that can really take the abuse.

Well, that's enough day dreaming for one guy!

Here's what I'd like to see from Ferrari:

V8s and V12s that delivers 30MPG or better without sacrificing performance. Modular engines could do this by shutting off extra cylinders when you just cruise on the freeway. Stomp on the gas the all cylinders comes to life.

Absolutely no cupholders! EVER!

Better and more durable paintwork.

Just improve current technologies (active suspension, F1 transmission, and active aerodynamics)

Please add to the wish list if you like...

NO timing belts! How about adding to the power wars, endurance wars. See who can build the toughest car around. The things that break the most on modern cars are the stupid a** computers. Put some pride into the electronics. Lets see who can make a car that can go 250K miles before the first tune up, and have a power train waranty of 500K miles. That is when its will be worth the price of a luxury car.

I'm with you guys, quality, reliability and performance are my hot buttons. Luxury car makers are having a tough time figuring out what 'luxury' is these days. It used to be that a leather interior and power gadgets separated a Lincoln or Cadillac from the masses. Today, these options are available on every vehicle. Many 'economy' cars like the Focus leave the factory with leather these days. BMW and Mercedes in particular seem to think that increasing levels of technology will set them apart. The new 7 Series has so many new gadgets that most first time drivers need a training course to operate it.

yeah, they should focus on quality, ergonomics, design rather than new gimmicks. no doubt some of the "features" are driven by a need to look good in checkbox comparisons but I'd much rather have fewer but more usable and better thought out features. I mean once you sit in the car it's pretty apparent where the money went so mfgrs are not doing themselves any favors by adding gadgets at the expense of better materials and design/engineering.

Martin is right on target. More gadgets is not what we need. Better design and better quality should be the focus of the auto makers. Just keep the existing systems and improve them.

You know, they're talking about putting a PC in your car now so you can access your email or surf the net. That's another distraction the driver could do without.

sh*t that actually works.
All the crap they put in cars today does not work. MB SLK cup holder broke with the first cup I put in. MBCLK430 (a $60K car miind you) the door does not close unless you are Arnold because of the air pressure in the car.
They should work on the car and what they have in them instead of coming up with new crap that does fail and angers the driver.

I was chosen for some research and design survey where i have to give them my opinions on things i would like to see in future cars. Apparently, car manufacturers want ideas. one of the models included was the A4, which i own. Other cars were volvos, benzes, bmw's, etc. They said it will take 1.5 to 2 hrs and they will give me a check for $150, thats alot of money for someone my age to make in such a short period of time. Anyway, what would all of you like to see in future cars?
