Metallic 328 colors are clearcoated, however. And the Zymol Ital wax is exceptional (also expensive). I use it on both F-cars!

I think even if use non-cleaner wax and the finest cotton rags you will still get some color when waxing older cars. There is friction

328 paint is a single stage. No clearcoat. Above the primer is true red paint. This is a soft finish. Do not use cleaner waxes or true polishes unless you are trying to take off some paint to smooth out scratches. Trash whatever wax you're using and get some Zymol. Get either the Italwax (Specially formulated for Italian finishes and great for single stage) or even one of the cheaper Zymol products like the Carbon wax which is about $35 for an 8oz can. There are other good ones out there, but I like Zymol and Pinnacle (Souveran) the best. You should get very little if any color from your paint from just waxing.

A little paint removal is normal with waxing on non metalic colors. If you don't get any, then the car was painted and clearcoated.

You also could consider the previous owner used a product like "color match" wax. I have used it to take out little scratch marks. The wax is red in colorand does come off on rag when I wax with non colored wax.

Art is correct... many waxes have "cleaners"... the cleaners are abrasive. If your paint is in good shape, you may not need a "cleaner" wax.

The wax contains abrasivies. When you polish your case you are very fine sanding it, and thus the high points are removed, which are red. The abrasive is very, very fine.

When I recently waxed my 328 i noticed the rag was red (red car, white wax). Is this common and if so, what causes the rag to turn red.
