How bad of condition can a 6 year old car really get? I guess that would be about the time of a major service. That's probably a $10k bill? If the car was solid I would rather have the 456. |

Don't buy a 456 in "reasonable" shape. That's just asking for big bill$ down the line, and soon. I love my 456, and haven't regretted owning for a minute, but I went the extra mile to get one in great condition, and having seen some in "reasonable shape" while looking, am glad I decided to pay more for the better condition. In the long run, it has surely cost me less than the cheaper initial buy would have. If $70K is your cap, I'd go for the 348 in pristine condition. If you're serious about the 456, look at some other examples to see how they differ. Another important thing to think about is what kind of driving experience you want to have. The 456 is not a small car. It doesn't give you that same feeling of being in a sports car that a 348 might. On the other hand, the 456 loves to just go, and go, and go. It's a great touring car, and eats up the highway miles with ease and great comfort. Not as comfortable as a BMW or Merc., but then again, when you decide to take one of those little twisty side roads, WAHOOO! Window seal issues can be resolved. There have been several other service bulletins for items that should be replaced/upgraded. Get any 456 you're looking at inspected by a dealer who knows of these issues. Not sure if non-dealer mechanics could give you as thorough an examination on a new car like this one. Last: I don't know how much service costs on the 348, and while it might be expensive becuase of having to pull the engine for major work, the 456 isn't cheap to keep serviced either.

My 348 Spider windows do not leak and I have driven it in the pouring Georgia spring rain. The only thing that leaks on my car is the driver's side cam seal ! |

Gino: I'd buy the 456 for the following reasons: V12, buiilt and assembled by the factory as a V12, meaning better quality, etc. However, I would have that car gone through with a fine toothcomb, because the price is much too low. It is an absolutely great deal even if it is a 95. It is my understanding that the 95 has problems with the windows leaking, but if you're getting a 348, you'll have a problem with it leaking anyway, so there is no difference. The 456 is NOT a daily driver however. Expect things to break, expect it to drag when you go into driveways, expect it to be a typical Ferrari, great to drive, but sometimes a pain in the a*s. |

The 456 is a manual if that helps. |

If the 456 is a manual I would say go for it, but be careful of a 456 in that price range. Have it checked out top to bottom. If the 348 is a spider, you'll be hard pressed to find a more fun to drive car. I think you'll find differing opinions on maintence on the 348 here. I have no experience with the earlier models, but the spider is very reliable when used regularly. |

Gino D. -- is the 456 you're considering a manual or automatic gearbox? |

456s are the most under-rated Ferraris. It's a 190+ MPH daily-driving rocket in the classic Ferrari style and not many cars could keep up with it. Don't forget the V12 sound! If attention is what you're looking for, buy a 328 or a testarossa. |

Everyone has different opinions. I have had a TR, 328GTS, 400GT, 330GTC and now a 348 Spider. Out of all of them I like the 348 Spider the best. The 348 looks better than the TR and 328 IMHO and runs better than all them. While the TR has a faster top end, the 348 has a faster 0-60mph and 1/4 mile time as well as is faster around the track than even the TR. Although the V12 of the 330GTC and 400GT sounds great with the Webers sucking air as you accelerate. That being said, if the 348 is a Spider, go with it. If not, go with the 456. By the way, where have you found a 456 for only $70k ? |

I have a 348, they are very expensive to keep up, matter of fact I think they are the most expensive. This is due to the fact that the engine has to be pulled to do a tune up. I would go with the 456 if I had the choice, depending on how good of a condition it is in. But do your home work first. |

I would buy a mint condition Testarossa, much better looking than a 348, great 12 cylinder, instantly recognizable as a Ferrri( one of Pininfarina's favorite designs) The 456 is very different than the others. If you can't find a testarossa to fit your budget, go for a mint condition 328 GTB. I have owned a 348 and never liked it, my testarossa and 328 are much better by far, personally I like he look of the 328 beter than the 348 |

What would you guys buy for $70,000 a 95' 456 in reasonable shape or a mint 348? Very different cars but both amazing. 12 cyl vs 8 cyl? Just wanted some input before I blow this kind of cash. |
