Speaking of old cars, i had a friend in college whose grandfather was a man named B.J. Pollard. B.J. had the second largest car collection in the world (Harrah had the biggest). Pollard's collection wasn't as well organized as Harrah's, it was more of a high level junk yard. He had several barns filled with cars, and one of them had cars stacked vertically (bumper to ceiling) atop one another. They were stacked so tightly that you couldn't get in. There was another building that was just brass parts from the brass age. He started collecting this stuff during WWII when old cars were being used for scrap metal to fuel the war effort. He hoarded them so that we could enjoy them. He had Detroit's first gas station stuffed away in a barn. He would have the old guys who actually built these cars in the first place come by to restore cars on their schedule. When my friend got married I was invited to help him clean up the cars he was using in the wedding. There was a 1929 Packard and a Stutz Blackhawk complete with rumble seat. He also had a famous Packard racing car called the Grey Wolf stored in the same building. It was later profiled in Road & Track. |

True, the people who appreciated these cars in high school are about 148 years old by now! There have been an ungodly number of cars on the market recently, and most are from the Imperial Palace collection. Did they close their museum? |

One time i was in idaho on a river rafting trip. We rafted by an old cabin that belonged to bill harrah. He used to fly all of the high rollers out there and pick them up in his fancy cars at the airstrip (no roads for hundreds of miles) and drive them to the house in fancy cars (about 100ft drive). |

I think a lot of the Imperial Palace cars are ex-Bill Harrah. RE: the market drop - could be partially due to the prime customer for this type of classic is decreasing in number. |

Yes, the Imperial Palace. They had about 40 cars. I believe they are all for sale which has caused the glut on the market. Their cars were absolutely beautiful. RM Cars in London, Ontario is a major Duesenberg restorer, and they have great cars as well. |

Duesenberg prices have been down lately because of a glut of cars on the market. If you want a real overdose go the the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival in Auburn, Indiana some Labor Day weekend. They have a beautiful museum, a parade with hundreds of A-C-D cars and a Kruse Auction. |

I was down at a Ferrari dealership yesterday to get some slicks for my 512TR. I drove my Jeep around back & I saw a Gorgeous 1931 4 door Duesenburg, Dam!!!!! What a car. I asked the salesman if it was around $3M, He told me they have been trading around $1.5M but this owner got a great deal, only $800k. Awesome |
