thought i'd post an answer for the archives here. how the comparison was performed: * using a 1996 Pantone Color Formula Guide (i disclose that becasue you shouldn't use guides this old, generally speaking - the color chits will change subtly over the years). * two caucasian anerican males (more than half the US male population has some sort of color blindness problem) both with better than 20/20 vision. * against a 1999 355 with PPG paint (not Glasurit) * in direct July sunlight midday (12:00-13:00). we came up with 123C, which is 15 parts PANTONE Yellow (93.8%)and 1 part PANTONE Warm Red (6.2%). this was definitely the closest match but was not entirely dark enough. 1235C (14.5/1.5 ratio) was clearly too much red. sorry, there were no CMYK values on this particular PANTONE publication (i have a newer one with CMYK, but can't find it - c'est la vie. i'm redoing my garage, and i plan to paint some of the room's various oddities in yellow (a few poles, the cement skirt around the edge, etc. subtle stuff. hope this helps someone someday :-). i'll update the posting if i do any more math on this. doody. |
