Jake, my father in-law and I are thinking about the cellular tower idea. Can you give me some more info on how to research the cost involved. You can email me at [email protected] with the info if you would like to. Thanks. |

The cell tower is a good idea. I own one south of Boston. It was about 150k (not including the land its on) with all of the legal fees etc. All I had to provide was the free standing structure. The paging + cell companies are responsible for all electronics etc. They pay all maint cost not associated with the basic structure as well as the electric install and future electric bills. Its a 40 year lease and it the price goes up every 2 years. I have 3 carriers all in the $2100-$2300 range per month. Its a good investment but not nearly as easy as it seems. You have to own or lease the land and it has to be zoned properly. If its in a residential area you will have problems with neighbors (sp?) fighting the permit. |

You guys ever heard of a franchise called Mr. Handyman? Michael Shing's post made me think of it. I was thinking about doing a service biz (in Dallas, TX) on my own and skipping the fees and royalties. Just seems that it might be hard to get any efficiencies or economies of scale with a jack of all trades type biz. thoughts? |

Personally, instead of a Dino Burger I'd opt for a Dino FRANKfurter. |

How about Enzoburgers? The Ferrari name would require too many copyright hassles, but Enzo is probably still available. I can envision tasty Enzoburger franchises popping up faster that a well used 308 requires towing to a service center. Imagine their menu: 308 breakfast burger: available sometime between 7AM and 3PM because their timing is always off. 550 burger: best to order well before 9AM so that it can be ready by 6PM, or maybe even tomorrow, no, make that next week. If not, get on a waiting list, hope you're not really hungry and in a hurry. 250 GTO burger: only 39 of these will be cooked each day, and by the time it's done, you can't afford it any more. Dinoburger: for those who really can't afford an Enzoburger, but still like the taste. It comes WITHOUT a prancing horse logo grilled into the sesame seed bun. If any burger fails to live up to its expectations, it will gladly be sent back for servicing and complete rebuilding if necessary. (all at extra cost). |

Bruce, Yeah, more than likely, but even that may not be enough, can you imagine the horror; a half german/half polak making pizza? I'll be lucky if a % is all they want. Honestly, I'd export the idea here to CA, haven't seen one yet. |

From my stay in Jersey; I'd say open a laundry mat w/ an ajoining pizza joint. What else are people expected to do; they're just sitting there, waiting. |

I am thinking about a Spaghetti shop similar to a Pizza shop. They are easy to make, just like a Pizza and you can serve them in a similar environment and make good money off them. We are looking for a location right now to start, then later take it to the franchise level. can you see the Ferrari parts handing between the noodles? |

In my opinion it depends what type of personality you have. If you are a people person, you should do sales, if you like to sit at home on your PC then start something with the internet. |

I don't know what you call them out in god's country, but they are those upholstered foot rests that are of a sufficient size to sit on, place a TV dinner tray on, etc. What do you call them? |

I always wanted to open up a retail store that sold nothing but hassocks, and call it the "Ottoman Empire." |

Start calling around to your local cellular providers and find out where they need a tower. Build the tower for $125k, lease them space on it for $1700/mo. Then go find 2 or 3 other carriers to lease space to on your tower, a single tower can support 3 or 4 carriers. Do the math. |

I dont like franchises. If You have 100-150k and cant afford to gamble. leave money in bank. Everybody I know with a sandwich shop, pizza place.ice cream store etc. Would gladly sell if they could find a cash buyer. Dont BUY yourself a job. |

I can't resist so here goes... I own 8 SUBWAY franchises in CT. which actually is where it all started (Bridgeport Ct.). Ive been in it for 15 years an sold a couple off as well. Started young (24) borrowed every nickle from parents. So to get where i am took a lot of hard work (made less than my employee's for a few years). Lived below my means (read "the millionaire next door" great book)(or in Ferrari speak i have a Mondial though i could buy something more$$). Subway (thanks Jared) has been seeing double digit growth in sales in parts of the country the last 3 years, so now is a great time to join up. Like any other brick's an mortar biz Location is everything. I know great operators in bad locations an so-so ones in great spots, remember its easier to find a great location once only with a 10-20 yr. lease than try to run a great operation every 365 day year in a so-so one. Fabrizio regarding opening up a pizza place could be great for someone with food experience allready, otherwise you should go with a franchise first. With that said when you choose a franchise go with the category leader like Subway Dunkin Donut's Wendy's etc as you will recieve so much more for the royalties you pay. Lastly i think what helps me succeed is my easy-goin attitude, it helps me retain great people as the daily problems in this biz can grind you down quick if you let it get to you. |

The trick to watch out for on Subway... is that the Corp. sells them without enough terratory protection. Owners I have known in the past complain that they were making good money until two or three more subways opened in the same part of town. |

A friend of mine was asked the same question by another friend of his. His advice was to buy a Subway Sandwich Shop franchise. The start up cost was very low compared to any other franchise. So his friend took his advice, and now owns 3 or 4 Subway shops. Of course my friend who offered the sound advice is kicking himself, because now the other guy is making all that money that he could have been making himself had he followed his own advice. |

Mr Sawyer, I would open up a fast food pizza place,, take out only,, purchase two used honda civics for delivery, and call the place "Pizza Box",, this advice comes from an avid business investor.. However, the only franchise I would purchase in a Chrispy cream. Other then that, you can always purchase property. however it takes an average of 10 years to pay off before you can see positive cash flow. However their are quicker ways HEHE. Goodluck Bro,, Remember, money;s not everything, you live and die in this world.

This forum has many bright and successful business people. We often are asked what you did to buy your Ferrari. I'd like to know what you guys think is the best business to get into today. Let's say that the person has good management skills and about $100-150K to invest and he can't afford to gamble. Would you do a franchise, and which one? Something else? |
