Well, the viperclub.org (Dodge Viper nat'l board) has off topic and it's the second most posted section. Lots of people have lots to say about non-car issues. :-)

my suggestion:

ferrari discussion forum
car talk forum (for italian and other cars)
garage talk forum (the technical/under the hood talk)
racing & competition forum (self explainitory)
off-topic forum (for anything that is about ...well, anything not related to the above)

sure, it could go south but that's what moderation is about. so we'd need volunteering moderators to either censor and/or move inappropriate/offensive threads.

Bill is right.. Even if we have a off topic section, any thread can still end up going south..
It would be a good idea but I feel it would be a waste in most cases

Bill,
I agree in part with the last statement you made. Some people may not like my idea simply because they may think that their off-topic post will not get as much attention. Who knows. Any other thoughts?

Since I'm probably the reason for this thread I'll put in my 1.5 cents.

It's true that we have several off topic posts now, but they aren't always this plentiful. A bigger problem is thread hijacking. For example, the garage thread that became the anti-Corvette thread. At least this way we know what the thread is about and can participate or stay away.

If we had an OT section everyone would stay away from it and continue to hijack Ferrari threads.

No, I think everything we say or do relates back to Ferrari in some way. Kind of like Kevin Bacon.

I for one think that it would be nice to have a section dedicated to purely off topic threads. I really do enjoy reading the off topic threads because I feel that everyone here can dedicate more than just Ferrari related expertise and opinions. Just seems like we have had an abundance of off topic threads as of late. Anyone else agree?
