Hey all - I hate having to ask a question that I feel I should already know the answer to, (I even did a keyword search and found nothing!) but here goes....what does the SF on these fender shields stand for? Thanks |

I have now put my 4" puffy SF stickers in the fenders. The looks great. I bought them from von Braun Sports car i Sweden for about $2 each. Quite cheap. They also said that if I want the enamel ones they can make a recess in the fender for them. Maybe that's the way to go (if you dare...) Ciao Peter |

A word of advice on enamel shields....I bought the factory option shield ($500) for my Ferrari 360 I did not order the car with them....Firstly, they were almost impossible to find....They have three studs in the back of them that had to be removed....No WAY was I drilling into the wing....Most importantly though, THEY DO NOT FIT...because my wings do not have the recess, the enamel badge does not seat properely, there is a gap at the top and bottom of the badge (I thought that they would just stick out a bit)....It was an expensive lesson to learn....Anyone want to make the same mistake for $300 :-) |

Julian, The shields look good on your car. I think you made the right move by putting them on! I also noticed...........your right rear wheel is for the left side. I think it's supposed to be positioned like the front one. Someone told me that these wheels are designed to direct air to the brake rotors to cool them off! I'm currently trying to fit a set of them on my 308. Has anyone out there put a set of 348ts wheels on their 308? Any advice on doing this would be appreciated! Once again......Your 348 looks good! Alex. |

Tire Fitment Question: I have a 1990 348ts. With tires going to lower profile these days, the OEM sizes are getting harder to find for the 17" wheels. Does anyone have any experience fitting 225/45 R17's in the front and 275/40 R17's in the rear? Have any other rear sizes been tried, and work? Let me know off-line. [email protected] |

IIRC (if I remember correctly) the SF shields have been an available option on all road Ferrari's since about 93ish (I can't recall if they were an opt on the 348). I am pretty sure that the 512TR/m and 355 (and undoubtably for the 360) had this as an option, HOWEVER this is for not just puffy stickers. They are hard curved metal plates that are RECESSED into the fenderwall and are basically not removable, without well an obscene looking mark. I can't remember if there were studs on the back. But I know that the 512TR fenders can be ordered either with the "indentation" or without. Just FYI... -Ben |

For about $20-$30 you can purchase the magnets. If you like them, invest in the stickers. If you don't like them, remove them and sell. I bought the magnets and have yet to decide if I like them on my Grigio 308. |

New to the Ferrari hobby( steep learning curve)! Bought a '85 GTS308QV euro. Being an originality freak, first thing was to remove 4" SF stickers. (hair dryer on low works best as heat guns can lead to accidents) BUT: Car did look better with them on ! I'll think about it while I get all the other bits and pieces sorted out. Sold a rusty '66 GT350 Shelby needing full resto to buy immaculate low mileage Ferrari (with change as well!). Investment wise - negative move. Fun factor - positive move by a mile. Love it, love it, love it!! |

David, I agree with Julian - looks great! I too think the color contrast on the black is very nice. I'm expecting it to look that good on my Sera blue as well. Soon as I put them on, I'll post pics. |

Today the guy that is part owner of the dealership near me dropped his daughter off at school in a rosso corsa 355 spyder, it had the Scuderia Ferrari shields on the side and I have to say that it looked really sharp. Better than without them I would say. But it is hard to say whether or not I would put them on my car. |

From a color viewpoint, I've always liked the extra yellow that the SF shield adds to the red/silver/yellow color mix of a red car, and I guess I now feel the same about a black car -- black/silver/yellow -- gorgeous! (Although, personally, I'm still a bit "undecided" on the shields vs no shields issue) |

As in everything Ferrari, anything added to the car (especially weight) must serve a function. The stickers meet this criteria perfectly. They are great at covering-up parking lot dings and scratches if you have 'em and the puffy ones are great at preventing them if you don't! I t also helps against the emblem theives (in nyc the prancing horse is esp. rare & prized!) as a "sacrificial" emblem ( the magnetic ones are perfect for this diversionary tactic!) they will aften go for the bigger stick on shield rather than the real jewel on the nose or rear. |

Gents, I got my 348 about 7 months ago. After 2 weeks I hightailed on down to the Ferrari Parts counter and bought the mylar (padded, resin) shields. I carefully measured and applied to the correct position. At first it looked really sharp then after looking at several 355/360's and several other factory cars with the "Cloissione"(sp?) and thinking I'd like to do a concours for my new baby. I found out from an FCA chief concours judge there were not appropiate as the car did not come with them and next to the enameled ones I just realised the're actually tacky, I removed them before it was too late. I guess that I'll lean to the purity of it all. There are lots of Asian cars with the stickers all over them, I just did not think doing stickers was the proper thing for it. |

The "gel" or commonly called "Puffy Sticker" looks just like the enameled ones that cost about $500.00. I personally think the magnetic ones look OK as the average onlooker does not know any difference anyway. They do not last as long as the enameled permanent ones but for the price you could buy a case of the Puffy ones. |

I'm buying 2 types of stickers from this guy on ebay and am not sure which one to put on: (1) 4" shield sticker (2) 4" shield "gel" sticker, but it's thicker, about 1/16". The seller is telling me that most owners use this sticker. Does anyone know? |

I saw a Sera Blue Testarossa on EBAy (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=585586015 ). The owner has put stickers everywhere, I think they call it "Arizona Style". A little too much, IMHO. Caribe. |

To get stickers off - use a hair dryer or very carefully use a heat gun. Do not pull the sticker up towards you but rather a 180 back across itself |

With cars like the F40, you got the shields whether you liked 'em or not. Have heard that the shields are somewhat of an American phenomenon - and that more U.S. cars are specified with this option than anywhere else. I guess my take is that there's enough badging on the cars without the need for the shields, but I wouldn't pry 'em of an F40 if I had one. |

When I purchased my 1989 328 GTS it had the stickers on the front...but the way I see it, it's not original to the car, so off they will come. Which brings me to my question...has anyone taken the stickers off, and if so, what is the best way? |

Sam, My 308 QV is a Euro version and did not come with a rear spoiler (although it was an option). I prefer it that way as I think the spoiler looks good but it's a cleaner look without it. Again, just an individualized, personal opinion. The Euro cars all had body colored front vents and the US cars were all black vents. Again, I chose to be different and I had my vents painted black, even though it's not original Euro style, I think the black vents look better. I agree with you that to individualize your Ferrari is part of your right as an owner, however I also think that not straying too far from original is important as well. Julian, most all of the quality Ferrari reference books will show a picture of a car with the shields on the front fenders. It usually is just beyond the door seam - I believe just above the small round reflector on the 348. Maybe others can give you more specifics on how to find the "exact" spot. Good luck! |

I HAVE THEM ON MY RED 308 AND THEY SEEM TO BELONG, TO COMPLETE THE PICTURE, NO OTHER CAR ON THE ROAD HAS ANYTHING LIKE THEM SO IT IS DISTINCTLY FERRARI, BUT WATCH-OUT, IT IS REAL EASY TO CROSS THE LINE AND GET TACKY WITH A FERRARI - ANY THOUGHTS ON BLACKED OUT TINTED WINDOWS? i HAVE A REALTED QUESTION, THE "BASKET HANDLE" SPOILER ATOP THE QV'S. I HEARD THAT EURO CARS DO NOT HAVE THIS SILLY THING AND THAT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT THE US DEALERS INSISTED ON IN ORDER TO DISTINGUISH THE CAR FROM THE EARLIER SLOWER (DRIVING AND SELLING) 2V. I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT THIS THING HAS ANY FUNCTION AND IS THE VERY DEFINITION OF "TACKED ON" TACKY. BUT I HAVE SEEN EURO CARS WITH THIS AND HEARD IT WAS AN OPTION IN EUROPE. ALSO, WHAT IS UP WITH THE FRONT VENTS ON 308'S I HAVE SEEN THEM BLACK (AS I THINK ARE OEM) BUT ALSO BODY PAINT COLOR. BUT I NEVER SEE THE SIDE WINDOW SHADES PAINTED BODY COLOR NOR THE BASKET HANDLE. WHAT IS UP -- I THINK IT IS GREAT TO PERSONALIZE YOUR CAR ANYWAY YOU LIKE, HEY PART OF BEING CRAZY FOR FERRARI'S IS THAT WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS. WHAT'S UP? |

Julian, It's interesting because I was going to ask the same question. I just purchased two of the 4" Ferrari shields - one for each fender - from Italian Car Parts. They are nicely resin coated and have a sticky back for easy application (not sure about removal!). My 308 is dark Sera blue and I too think that the yellow contrast looks good. It kind of sets off the yellow wheel center caps as well. I also am concerned about it looking "tacky" - yet at the same time I think the stickers give the car a nice unique look. Other opinions?? |

It's only a sin if you use the magnetic ones. The raised convex glossy sticky type is what's on the F40's and others for the factory. Magnet ones at closer inspection look cheap. Ferrari of Los Gatos (408)337-7200 http://www.fna6405@ibm.net has them for about $15.00 each |

My blk 348ts will arrive this weekend and I'm thinking about adding those little 2" yellow ferrari stickers to each side of the car, slightly ahead of the doors. I've seen it in some pics and really like the yellow against black contrast. Where can I buy the sticker and is this a ferrari sin? |
