Not sure, Chris. We will be out there next week for my wife's 20th high school reunion--we may stay for the Historics. BTW, when were you at the factory? We were there in 10/00, and they were just beginning Spyder production that week, they told us! |

Dave, you are almost correct. 2 lines V8 and 12, but Challenge 360's did not go down the V8 line. Dana and I were at the factory when the initial run of challenge cars were being assembled, because of the additional time required to build a 360 Challenge, the cars were put on the V12 line. Since there is a significantly higher demand for 360's than 550's or 456's they chose to "slow" the 12 cylinder line. It was also interesting that the very first production 360 Spider was going down the line, a Fly Yellow US car. Dave you going to Monterey? |

Last year, Ferrari spa produced ~~4000 cars. Of those, ~~1100 came to the US. This according to a dealer principal here in Texas. Yes, there are 2 assembly lines. According to folks who work them, the 8 cylinder line produces 12 cars daily (this used to include Challenge cars, but I believe, due to zero demand, they have stopped these). The 12 cylinder line produces 8 cars daily. I believe I was once told that the US got ~~120 Maranellos a year. Not sure if that is going up with the 575 production run. |

martin - the market for 360 spiders is bigger in the us than in other parts of the world. but that's never really been a factor in their allocations, has it ;-) my understanding is that the two assembly lines (8 and 12) produce X and Y cars each day respectively and the us gets 25% of production. i would very much be interested in hearing if anyone has hard stats on all this. my data is just anecdotal, collected through various sources over time. doody. |

I doubt it is just 50. More like 100-150 I would assume based on the 300-500 total production. I think the market for the 550 is bigger in the US than in other parts of the world.

if you can't find a real number, you can figure that out by backing through the factory production numbers. search the archives. my understanding is that the run is 300 to 500 550s per year; and that the the US gets 1/4 of production. doody |

Does anyone have any idea how many 550 Maranellos have been imported by Ferrari North America since 1997? Someone told me they import about 50 a year. I just want some verification of that figure. I called FNA today and the lady said this information was confidential! Go figure! |
