This seems like the post for new introductions so I guess I'll introduce myself as well. I'm Kevin. I don't have a 575 to go with my name much as I want one. I argue with my brother occasionally about the virtues of F-1 over 6sp. Like many things about us, the debate will never be solved. There's too much good about both. I've had a closer look at the 575 at Cauley and I'm surprised at how many differences (though subtle) that I noticed. They really did make the car better.

A couple of things you can tell from the 550 and 575: The wheels and the headlights with the aluminum rings around them (hard to tell with this car, since it is silver) Very subtle differences between the two though.

Congrats on a beautiful car!!!

"On a side not, shouldn't Ferrari make different tach gauge faces for the non-F1 version so that the gear screen window is eliminated? I dont think this would be a hugely expensive proposition. Is the 360 non-F1 also like this? I never noticed.... "

Ernesto- it is indeed the same, on my 360M at least. I believe you can in fact turn it on. My wifes uncle had a (manual) 550 just before they brought out the 575, and this had a window in the tacho. The local dealer turned it on for him and after about 10 mins it bugged him so he had it switched off again.

Gorgeous car.

Hello my name is jason and ive been poking around the board for awhile and I thought that I should share my thoughts.
The 575 is an awesome car and I look forward to hearing more about the experience of driving it.

As far as the 575 being the successor of the 550, is ferrari following the same path as they did with the testarossa, the 512tr and then the 512M?

If so we might see a limited edition line of the 550 (after the 575) as well as a substantial horsepower increase of the future car..maybe 560hp?

Anyone know of plans to make a sypder version of the 575?

regards,
jason

Considering the 3,800 lb weight of the car, the barkes are pretty dam great. Remember: a Porsche 911 typically weights 800 lbs less.

550 Maranello 80mph-full stop: 112 ft. 360 Modena: 110 ft.

Perhaps you just are feeling the extra weight. I assure you, however: as a 550 owner, THIS PUPPY WILL STOP!!

I echo others on the wise manual transmission choice. Congrats & ENJOY! ferraris are meant to be DRIVEN!!!

Bravo for the new car ! and Bravissimo for the 6 speed choice !

About the brakes ,european mags have also complained but they said that the Fiorano Package was the way to go.

Awesome car, love everything about it! Enjoy!!

On a side not, shouldn't Ferrari make different tach gauge faces for the non-F1 version so that the gear screen window is eliminated? I dont think this would be a hugely expensive proposition. Is the 360 non-F1 also like this? I never noticed....

warren - while the 575 and 550 look awfully similar, it's not unprecedented, eg: the Testarossa and 512TR. that difference is more pronounced, but it's the same general idea.

if they build for three years (maybe only two?) US production of 575s will be something like "a few hundred" cars. that's a teeny tiny market, and i'd be surprised if the visual difference issues would even vaguely enter into the mind of prospective buyers down the road. there will always be far more "ferrari enthusiasts" than there will ever be 575s, for sure! :-)

on a purely subjective level, i think the 550 is a gorgeous vehicle. i'm glad they didn't change it much: it didn't need much changing! in fact, most of the external mods seem to be engineering-driven, which is great. i'm a huge 512TR fan, but unlike the 550/575 evolution, i think the 512TR was a substantial aesthetic upgrade over the Testarossa.

my two pennies.

Refering to picture number 6 - Wow, that's the shinyest wheel well I've seen. 'Must have lubed that baby down. Beautiful car.

Your very lucky. To own 2 Ferrari's in 1 year is incredible! Treat her well. Good luck with your italian stallion.

Awesome! But doesn't the 575 look so much like the 550? Only ferrari enthusiasts will be able to tell the difference, and even then some may be confused. I'm a little confused at Ferrari's decision to keep the styling so similar. Wasn't there a discussion on this board in the past regarding 550s not keeping their value due to lower demands for 550s and 456s? nevertheless, this car looks like it can kick some serious booty.

philip - sweet ride. congrats!

i'd very much like to hear your thought proces on F1 -vs- 6 Speed. i too am a gearshift kinda guy, but i've been thinking of a 575 in my future and am having a hard time ignoring the F1 (i had no problem ignoring the F1 during my 355 search).

did you drive both and choose the 6 Speed or was it more of a "shifter purist" :-) kind of thing?

enjoy!

doody.

As far as I'm concerned that is the best production sports car available in the world at the moment.
I want one badly.
The interior is simply stunning - a work of art, and I've always loved the styling. I see you've gone for the manual - so would I - Great pics and good options with the scuderia shields and you're right about the Tubi exhaust!

Phil,
That is some ride. I didn't know all that much about the 575M until I read my first Forza magazine issue this month. If your car is 1/2 of what the article says...that thing is HOT! Best of luck and a sincere congrats!

First of all, FerrariChat is incredible! While this is my first post, Ive been lurking around here for the past 6 months. Your tips helped me into my first Ferrari 4 months ago a 1998 F355b. That was it - I was bitten by the Ferrari bug. I remember starting up my very own Ferrari for the first time actually that was also the very first time Ive driven a Ferrari. Wow!

I used my F355 as my daily driver for about 4 months. During that period I routinely harassed my local Ferrari dealer for a new 360 without success. He sold me on a 575M and bought my F355 for exactly what I paid 4 months earlier.

I picked it up my 575M last Thursday. Silver 575M 6SP with Tubi sorry guys, F1 isnt for me.

Ive driven about 1200KM this week. There is no question that the 575M is big and heavy but she masks it well. The car is very nimble. Steering is precise and light. Power/torque is incredible. The car is very well balanced and a lot of fun to drive hard. She is also very forgiving. Traction control is a pain in the ass and has been permanently switched off.

The interior is incredible. Comfortable, elegant and well laid-out. Im 63 and from my sitting position, the speedometer gage needs some adjusting. I have clear view up to 200Km/h. After 200, its a guessing game until 300. Late night bonsai runs require quite an effort to see how fast Im actually going.

The car is very fast. The power is evenly distributed. The car has an enormous amount of torque. 0-100 (0-60MPH) is nice but what is really impressive is full acceleration after 120Km/h. It just doesnt stop. On the highway, full acceleration causes the front to noticeably raise itself.

Im not crazy about the braking although I have yet to track the car. Based on feeling only, my 911 had far superior brakes than the 355 or 575. The other day I had a left lane bandit pull out in front of me while I was going through the gears. I wasnt able to brake fast enough and had to use the shoulder (2 lane highway with paved shoulder).

The styling of the car is fantastic.

For those of you with a 550/575, I highly recommend the Tubi exhaust system. Its hardly noticeable on the highway and really makes the car come alive.

Here she is:
