The valve timing is substantially different from even a late (79) carbed car to an early (80) injected car. Mainly, this was done for emissions. Fuel delivery isn't as much of an issue as is ignition timing -- so with some tweaking on the distributor settings, you could probably make your 'hybrid' work.

But, I strongly agree with the other posts... If you're going to the trouble and expense of such a conversion, go the whole way with a direct fire / electronic injection system (I highly recommend the MOTEC systems http://www.motec.com/).

The Bosch K / KE Jetronic systems are advantageous to the carbs, but they are still junk compared with today's FI systems (and the aftermarket systems available for that application).

Also, Steve's point is well taken. Conversions usually devalue so whatever you do, save the original components and make sure you can reverse alterations for resale. Also, the carbed cars have good resale, the injected cars don't, so trading may actually be a profitable move???

I think the cams are equally mild (if not identical) on the carbed and follow-on injected 2-valves so no significant functional difference there. Not many ways I see this "conversion" being a smart move value-wise (a big $ project that may actually devalue the car even if it runs well) -- unless maybe somebody gives you a complete, fresh K-Jetronic system (and then HEG makes the valid point of modernization to consider). If your induction system is giving you problems, why not replace it? (If its working well, but you want the advantages/behavior of an injected car get an injected car!). I think PARTSOURCE (Geof Ohland -- http://www.ferrariparts.com) could get you an exact correct set of XX/YY/ZZ/WW 40DCNF Webers for your year/model (for maybe ~$3K or hopefully a bit less). And Id definitely talk to SUPERFORMANCE (http://www.superformance.co.uk) -- the one in the UK, not the Cobra shop in the US. Based on their website prices, it seems they could do a set of (slightly incorrect I think) 40DCNFs for $1,500~$2000 that you can make work well by swapping over the special linkage bits, air horns, and various jets (if necessary) from your existing set. JMHO.

If I was going to convert any vehicle to fuel injection it would be an electronic and not mechanical with computor injection delivery and distributorless ignition. The Bosch system is a Dinosaur just like carbs.

I have heard about Fuel Injection conversion on 308's before from Nick. Has anyone ever done this conversion before and is it possible to use Bosch k-Jetronic off of a 80's 308 or would the cams not allow it to work with the mechanical fuel injection? Thanks.
