Rolly I didn't make video night. I will be at events this year but I don't know if the car will be ready. I'm shooting for the end of the summer but money will be the deciding factor. Steve, that is interesting. Anyone else have these markings on non 308 cars? |

Nice to see the project coming along Jay. I made the video night at Ferrari of Ontario last week but didn't see you. Are you planning to have the car ready for one of the upcoming events? Keep up the good work! |

JG -- (I don't know for sure, but) usually such hand-marking indicates the actual deviation of the part from some nominal value so that the assembler can select sets of gears that "compensate" for each other and/or the housing bore locations. My guess would be the "0399", (or the "0296 and "0300" in Peter's stuff) is just a label/name whereas the "50" and "80" somehow represent the actual deviation of the part from nominal. |

Makes me wonder what those numbers mean. I even counted the teeth but that's not it. Anyone know? Here's a pic of my gas tanks now that they are painted.

Just out of curiosity Jay, what are some of the S/N's you've come across on the tranny parts? Most parts in my tranny are either 0296, or 0300.

Jay, I did my rear supension this last summer with the help of many from here and the Ferrari list. Here is a picture for contrast to your parts. I am an expert only on the last part of my car I have rebuilt. :-) If I can be of any assitance let me know. Rob

Andrew yes it is a 1975 308 GT4. Yesterday Rocco, opened up the tranny and found enough sludge on the bottom to fill an oil tanker! The seals were hard as rock and of course, you can see the condition of the suspension and brakes. Rotors are toast. The engine was rebuilt but the joker had the tranny bolted up to it without changing the seals or even opening it up to see if everything was alright. I also found the fuel, brake, coolant lines to be fried. The amount of grease and dirt on the frame is unbelievable, but at least it protected everything from rusting! BretM I also found that the guy used a Fiat tensioner which is exactly the same size as the belt, no room for movement. Needless to say that will be replaced. Little things where he "Cheaped Out" are starting to add up. I figure I'm already here so I might as well do it right.

I wish my engine was that clean. Great pics Jay and keep up the good work. The only thing that pissed me off (not really bad actually) was on the transfer case you could see where some idiot pried it with a screw driver. It wasn't all the way across the surface so it wasn't leaking or anything, just stupid to do. Use wooden wedges or something instead, it's common sense with an aluminum engine. The guy that did my car last was an idiot, there was just too much silicone used and what he thought would solve oil leaks wound up causing them. Other than those two minor things I didn't find anything bad. |

Jay what did you find that upset you. I found all kinds of things that weren't done right. I too am surprised by the treatment of some Ferraris. |

That engine looks very clean, I would replace those breaks. Your right about treatment, some buy them because they look cool or its a status symbol to them (both very wrong reasons to own a Ferrari imo). What car is this? It would help if I looked at the title, a GT4? Are you restoring it? Sorry if you mentioned it earlier, I did not see the post. I'm not sure if its in the links but here is a cool restoration page. http://www.tomyang.com/cars/ferrari.html |

Well, the tear down has begun! Engine and tranny are apart and the rear suspension is down. Amazing how some people treat their cars, especially when it is a Ferrari. The previous owner should be shot!
