I put Euro bumpers on my 1977 308 GTB. Just took the US ones off and bolted on the Euros. They attached to the shocks will no modifications. I did cut the rubber body trim around the ends of the rear bumper. While beauty is in the eye etc, look is awesome.

I took a slightly different approach when I mounted a euro bumper I my 78 308 GTS. I elected to retain the stock bumper shocks and modify the bumper to fit them. Once you get over the realization that the front bumper will not protect the nose from impacts much greater than a shopping cart, the end result is satisfactory to me. The beauty is, a US spec bumper can be refitted at any time, yet for cosmetic purposes, you have the euro look. Modification of the backside of the bumper was a pain in the butt. It required careful cutting of the lower flange of the bumper to provide clearance for the rectangular bumper mount pad on the end of the mounts, redrilling of the bumper mounting holes, bonding of couple of bolt/studs, and some reconstructive fiberglass work. All modifications are done to the back side of the bumper, so it is hidden from sight.

Where exactly on the shock do you drill? Do you need to remove the shocks to do it?

You can colapse the shocks, drill a hole and install a screw into the side to hold it in place. Remove the screw to reverse the mod. The only obstruction on my car is the air horns which someone else installed so I will relocate them. The original horn may not interfere. The shocks look tough to get at, particularly the large bolt on the frame at the rear of the shock. Im assuming I would have to remove the shocks and put them in a press to adjust them. Ill be making this mod in the near future as well.

Bruno -- I think maybe there was a guy advertising in the FML (Bruce somebody? IIRC), some moons before the FList or FChat existed, that had fabricated a somewhat shorter Aluminum "dummy" shock to replace the 308 stock collapsible shock. Ive never heard of anyone making a more lightweight shorter bracket that replaces both the collapsible shock and its (big) mounts (although I too wouldve liked a set for my ex-US 308) -- except for Bob C. below! Since Bruces approach didnt really address the excess weight problem much, I didnt pursue it (nor collapsing the stock shocks which also has no weight improvement) -- and I never got around to doing anything better myself. Its a shame that someone like Superformance doesnt design up and fab some decent fixed front/rear bumper brackets for the US 308s they dont know our pain :-)

I fabbed up new mounts, didn't want to ruin the original shocks. Move the bumper in till the trailing edge of the amber lense is even with the leading edge of the car.

I think what you do is Collapse the bumper shocks and bolt them down.
