I have not had the opportunity to drive my friend's car b4 he fixed it. But his description of the problem seems to fit. Any luck so far? |

Thanks for the recommendation. I had not thought to consider this possibility although initially I would have expected pinging/knocking through the entire RPM range if the crank position sensor was acting up. Is my logic incorrect? |

Have U check your crank position sensor? A good friend's mondial has very similar problems. By the way, take the sensor if spoilt to a good italian car part store and U can get an exactly similar part for 1/3 the OEM price. |

Have a 1983 308qv euro spec that exhibits pinging/knocking between 2800-3200 RPM in every gear when under load. No pinging/knocking under or above this RPM range. Can baby it through the RPM range without getting the pinging or knocking. No other problems. Have searched and searched for the obvious and nothing readily apparent. There is no EGR valve on the car. All spark plugs are very light colored. The car came from San Diego for what's it's worth and reportedly could not pass the smog test out there. No problem here since I do not have a smog test. Would appreciate any advise on things to look for before breaking down to take to nearest dealer which is a good 100 miles away. Thanks in Advance |
