Well Steve, I guess you answered my question if in fact the seal is installed that way. Just thought I would ask, since I never overhauled one, but it's good to hear it from someone who knows. MAGOO |

Magoo -- what do you mean by "not exposed"? I think every water pump uses a ceramic face seal (and therefore may benefit). |

SORRY Steve, after reading your response again I see that you have not had any problems. So maybe it is a good preventative. It certainly hasn't hurt. MAGOO |

Thanks Steve for your response. The reason I asked is that the pump can be overhauled with a kit. Those who have performed the proceedure would be familiar with the installation and may feel that a pump lube would extend the seal life. Then on the other hand it may be enclosed where it is not exposed and a pump lube would be unnecessary. Have you had any pump failures and will you continue to use the lube? MAGOO |

I've used the Prestone-brand water pump snake-oil in my Ferraris/Hondas/Jeep over about the last 8 years -- no problems to report, but it's hard to really confirm if there's a benefit. |

This question is for those who have overhauled the 308 water pumps. What is your feeling about water pump lube prolonging the life of the seal and bearing in the pump. Or is it so constructed that pump lube doesn't benefit at all. MAGOO |
