OK, I am having a bit of a logistical problem arranging for the cherry picker and may actually have to delay it one week. That means I'll have time to tackle that. |

Mitchell, Some times there is only a hairline fission where the drill press came too close to the inside case. I looked back in mine and it didn't appear to be a problem, But there was one and it stopped the leak. Just thought it wouldn't hurt because Permatex No. 2 stays pliable and can be removed in the future with no problem if you decide to take the mounts off. JMO |

Magoo, I removed and looked inside all of my engine mount bolts and found that they do not go through the transmission case and engine case. So, I opted to leave it dry on installation. I even felt for them from inside the case and did not find any bolts going into the case. |

Mitchell, If I were you I would coat all the motor mount bolts with Permatex No. 2. I had leaks in my 308 in these areas. Easy to do now and cheap insurance. |

Its not in a difficult spot, so if it gives further trouble, you won't have to pull that engine out to fix it... |

Peter, That is it, that is the one. My also has an expansion plug, and punch marks to keep it from falling out. It was also covered with some epoxy which was worn out and hence the leak. Anyway, I pried out the epoxy, and found 1/8 of an inch of the hole left open. So I filled it with Super Grey RTV, smoothed out the opening, cured it with heat, and for the last 4 hours so far no leaks. If there are no leaks tomorrow, it will be left alone. (if there are leaks tomorrow, it will too be left alone, I have no time for a proper drill, tap, and plug process). The engine goes in tomorrow, and that is all I have time for. |

From your description, it sounds like its the housing for the end of one of the transmission shafts. If its the same as mine, I noticed this end was covered by a small plate, recessed, which had punch marks to hold it in place. Didn't leak before, so I didn't touch it (actually, I did nothing to the tranny). I'm not sure what to suggest for a repair. Maybe thread it and plug it (?). |

Well, buttoned up everything and filled it up with oil for engine and transmission and let it sit. Now I noticed a weep of tranny oil coming out of a very strange place. It is on the front (timing belt/water pump) side of the tranny, almost at the bottom of the tranny case. Thre is a 1" round by 1" long protrusion from the case, several inches below the place where the speedosensor mounts to. On my tranny, this was filled with something black, epoxy like, sealant type of material. This black stuff is eroding away (seems like) and is weeping oil. Question: Does anyone have this problem? What is inside the tranny that fits inside this housing protrusion, and how to fix that leak? I am tempted to (but not going to) pry away the epoxy material and try to seal it up again.
