I am investigating new self-leveling units on a 365 GTC/4. Does anyone have Jeff LeBlond's telephone number or e-mail? I am a bit confused by some of the items mentioned in this thread. If I understand correctly, the dual Koni's on each side of the rear of the 365 GTC/4, like those on the 400, are NOT dual shocks, but 1 shock (forward) and one self-leveling Koni unit (rear). The self-leveling units are no longer available, but can be rebuilt by a surgeon (LeBlond) in Arizona. Is this correct? Thanks. Jim S. |

Just the shocks. The self levellers on this car are self contained air. They are not the hydraulic and not interconnected. I didnt ask for them.I know they will rebuild them.Mine are still good. Knock on wood. I think if they do go I am going with a pair of air shocks from pepboys.I dont know if you can do that with the hydraulic system.I have no pumps or resovoirs. |

But did you buy the shocks or the self-levellers? The shocks are available again now but were out-of-stock in 2000/2001. If it is the self-levellers please let me know where you bought them. Simon |

I'm back. And much to my delight I have found that the shocks for my car are still available from Koni. It turns out that up to 1982 they used a letter code for destination. "T" being Italy. If you delete that from the part number on the old shocks the new one's match the part number. They are on the way. $325.00 for pair. I'm happy again.I wonder how many people accepted the rumor of the shocks being unavailable for that car????? |

Yes mine are original and in fine condition after all these years. They guy I mentioned put me onto the spring issue and that was in fact the problem. They are NOT connected and they are not they hydraulic type that later models were fitted with. Don't sell - at least not yet. There are many options and only one is expensive one. |

The single 'non-connected' rear units sound like the ones fitted to my carburettor 400. These are self-levelling of a sort. The 400i had the units connected together, then later ones had an even more complex system with pumps and the like. The 400 carb was replaced by the 400i in late 79. What chassis number is yours?

Another thing to consider before doing any shock replacement is to check the springs - especially since they are probably original to the car - thus 20+ years old. They are relatively "cheap" compared to shocks. You might post the year of your car, but it sounds exactly like mine and yes, they are self-contained, self-levelling shocks. |

Sounds like somebody did a conversion. Unless that was a option. If they did I would get a set you can adjust by a air valve located on the outside of the car. Pep boys has them. Basicly they are overload air shocks. |

Here is another thing. Everybody tells me I have self leveling shocks. I dont. I have the 2 in the front of the axle with coil springs around them and two behind the axle with nothing. They look like air shocks by the size but there is no air holes no hydraulic lines and they are not interconnected. How can they be self levelling if they are not interconnected.????? there is no resovoir or pump anywhere either. How come I always get the hard problems???? Someone please help!!!! |

The ONLY place to have your 400i rear self-leveling shocks rebuilt is FJB Limited in Arizona. They guy's name is Jeff LeBlond and he is super knowledgable on these units. The cost is around $500.00/pair or he will sell you new coil-overs for $800.00/pair. I will email you his number if you want it. It also depends on the year of your 400i as they changed the self-levelling units from self contained to hydraulics around '84 or so - I think. |

I baby sat a friends 400i for a while...the self levelling units died...he latter sold the car (for a song) and the new owner replaced them with aftermarket units...this car just came up on e-bay about 2 months ago....can't remember the brand he replaced with...this guy was on the Ferrari List chat. |

In the UK the shocks are available for $225 each for front and rear. In the US I understand that Koni will rebuild the originals for you for about $130 each. There are only two rear shocks on your car though. The other two units are self-levelling units and are unobtainable. There is a guy in Arizona or Texas who is rumoured to rebuild the originals for around $2,000 each (yes that is $2,000 each). I have his details somewhere if you need it. What are wrong with yours?
