If you want know how much your car weighs - go to the dump, they weigh it before and after.

Thanks for the ideas guys... but...

I actually have access to a set of nice, accurate race-car-type scales. So the ability to determine a cars exact weight is not my problem. :) In fact, if I could find a fiberglass 308 local to me, that was willing to be weighed, that would be a pretty nice solution to my puzzle.

cheers,
jsaon

Jason, that kind of gives you some options if no one has the exact figure. I must admit that I never thought any state would,as independent as they usually are, take the time to do something that wasn't written in the book. I STAND CORRECTED. MAGOO

Whenever I wanted to weigh my car, I took it over to a local stone quarry. They always left their scale on for the delivery trucks (unattended). I would just drive up and look at the display. Any place that sells trucked items by weight should have these. I found them to be very friendly.

I did not know that he did not already have one, and in S.C. if you ask at the weigh stations politely they will be glad to weigh the car.

just to clarify here in CA there are State of CA Truck Scales at certian points along the highways, these will not allow cars. There are also private but certified scales around (near shipping areas or truck stops) that charge (usually less than) $10 to weigh anything you can fit onto them (from a motorcycle to a semi truck, RV or boat) given 10 minutes to get the placement right (cars are easy).

Erik, When you stopped in the truck weighing station to get weighed what were you driving, Your Ferrari? What did the scale read, maybe you could help us solve this problem. MAGOO

Just shipped one of those heavy front bumpers, its weight was 46# without the struts attached and without lamps or housings.

Every truck scale I have ever stopped at happily weighed my vehicle.

Thanks rocco, that's the kind of info I'm looking for... do you happen to know if that was full of fuel? empty of fuel?

Herbert, if I *already* had one I *would* just weigh it. :)

Herbert, your point makes sense if he had a truck. I don't think he would be well received by the state if he did that. Am I wrong or will they weigh passenger cars? MAGOO

Why don't you just pull into a truck weigh station and ask them to weigh the thing?

depends on the year. early 1977 fiberglass cars r much lighter than later steel cars, also later cars have heavy US DOT mandated bumpers which weigh over 50 lbs on each end.
It shouldnt b too hard to pull records or look in magazines for the exact weight of whichever year 308 u have in mind
my 84 308QV GTS weighed around 3200 stock

Hi all, I was hoping someone out there could tell me what a carbed 308 GTB weighs... I've seen several different published weights that range from a little over 2400lbs to over 3200lbs. I'm particularly interested in just how much lighter the early fiberglass versions actually are.

So if anyone out there as ever actually had their 308 on a set of automotive scales (and can tell me what the fuel level was, if the spare was in it, tool kit, etc...) I'd really love to hear about it.

I'm thinking about campainging a 308 GTB in SCCA Solo II ("B Street Prepared") racing next year, but in trying to determine the relative competitiveness of a 308 versus the current class champs I need a good idea of its weight. I dont want to invest all that money into building a Ferrari racer if the end result has no chance...

Thanks!
