There was one (or possibly two) internal wrenching hex screws that held that piece on. It was under the rubber trim.

Ric,

Was this http://www.rainbolt.com/ferrari/gtbpaint/MVC-026X.JPG done by the "brute-force" method?

OK, I hate to be thick headed, but how did you remove the vertical black anodized molding from this picture:http://www.rainbolt.com/ferrari/gtbpaint/MVC-023X.JPG
to this one:http://www.rainbolt.com/ferrari/gtbpaint/MVC-024X.JPG

The 'B' is different from the 'S'. BTW, I wrote the procedure at http://home.att.net/~ferrari/interi4.htm, but it's for an 'S'.

Here's some pictures where I took apart the trim off my 79 GTB. I'd be willing to bet it's very similar on your 328.

Carmine...

I found the following link that may help you with your situation:

I don't know whether the Oxyclean bleached the fabric or not as it was already white and had recently been replaced, but it gets dirty looking really fast because I drive with the top off almost exclusively and that area collects dust and fingerprints. After a spraying with the Oxyclean it is white again and looks new. I purchased the plastic container of the powder and used one of the enclosed scoops and put it in an old Windex spray bottle with 22 OZs of water {not distilled} and sprayed it until it was saturated and then blotted it with a clean cloth after a few minutes of soaking, and then let it air dry.

Carmine,

I think that the shield you're talking about is held in place with rivets, not screws. As far as removing the black plastic, I'm not 100% sure, but maybe removing the rubber weatherstripping first might provide a clue. I would send an eMail to Bill Badurski, the FCA technical chairman via the FCA Technical Forum. Log on to www.ferrariclubofamerica.org, then click on "Tech Tips." (The forum is open to everyone now, but soon will be available only to FCA members.) He's always been very helpful to me, and contributes to this site.

Ed, Leonardo,

The fabric on the rear deck is deteriorated, that's why I want to refinish it. I understand that to undo the deck, one needs to remove the heat shield below the deck inside the engine to get at some screws that hold the middle piece together. That alone sounds like a pain, but doable. But I don't have a clue on is how to begin to take the window apart. How does the finishing black molding covering the rubber seals come apart? Is that the 1st step?

Ed,

Did the Oxyclean bleach the fabric? Did you dilute it at all?

I tried some of that Oxyclean stuff that they advertise on TV that is also available from Wal-Mart, on a stain on my cloth trim and it really did work.

Carmine,

You have the same exact problem I do, only worse. It must be typical for GTBs. I've been waiting for an uninterrupted weekend to try and reseal the glass. You need to remove the rubber weatherstripping with a very flat putty knife. I've been told this can be done without damaging the rubber. After you remove the rubber, use 3Ms weatherstrip adhesive (follow the directions?apply to both sides) to reseal the glass and reinstall the rubber. You might need an extra pair of hands to make sure the adhesive doen't touch the glass as you're fitting the rubber back into place. (It can be a real pain to clean up.)

As far as the fabric on the rear deck goes, do a search on this site, because I know this topic has come up in the past. I'm going to try a fabric cleaner to remove my water stains first. If that doesn't work, I may have to recover the entire deck. Some people take this oportunity to recover with leather instead of fabric. Let me know how you make out.

I'm going to attempt to refinish the rear deck, but I don't know how to take the side windows apart. It's not very obvious where to begin since there are no visible starting points.

Any suggestions?

This is what happens every time I wash the car.
