The dye can be purchased at most auto stores in a pressurized can. You would put it in the suction side of the system with the proper charging guages. Then drive it,with the a/c on for a while and check all schrader valves, fittings, hoses and compressor seal. The dye should exit the area of the leak. |

Magoo: Charged with Freon or Nitrogen? How would one insert the dye if the system is already charged? Thanks |

There is a dye but you have to have the system charged and under pressure to force it out of where it is leaking. |

Ed: I just won an A/C recharger on e-Bay, including the gauges......and even a full tank of R12. I already have a tank of pure Nitrogen.....I use it for welding aluminum ( a hobby). I thought that there was a certain dye that one could use.....thus, easily detecting the leak. Thanks.

You can use nitrogen but you are going to have to have gauges and Nitrogen and a leak detector. By the time you buy all that stuff you could pay a Pro for less. |

After many hours of analyzing the electrical components (with the help of Steve Magnusson) of the A/C system, the problem turns out to be NO Freon. Check the thread on "88TR center console removal?" for an indept analysis. Before I put Freon in the system, and watch it blow away, is there anything I could put through the system to find the leak? That way, I can correct the problem first; then, put in the Freon. Any A/C wizzards out there? Thanks. |
