Hey, sounds like you have the same "electronic launch control" problems that Ferrari is having on their F-1 race car! Except theirs is in foward gear! See you really do have a race bred Ferrari!

One of these circuits is killing the power to your ignition when you put it in reverse. Find out which circuit it is and possibly change your ignition to a different circuit.

Greg -- As I said in my private e-mail, the problem is more likely in the fuseblock rivet connections. When you remove the #2 fuse there is an indirect mechanical effect as well as the direct electrical effect. My guess is that when the #2 fuse is physically in place the electrical connections at the rivets on the backside of the fuseblock are poor, and when you remove the #2 fuse the rivet connections become more OK electrically -- you could test this guess by either:
1) removing the #2 fuse (to get the mechanical effect) and adding a jumper wire to replace the electrical fuse function (all should be OK), or
2) keep the #2 fuse in place but remove all the wires from the bottom of the #2 fuse -- if you still have the problem you know it's related to the physical presence of the #2 fuse.

Here is the latest details. Steve had informed me that it maybe a short in the reverse lights. I pulled the fuse and the reverse lights didn't work as well as my gauges. The car go out of the driveway fine. I then put the fuse back in and pulled the reverse light wire on the bottom of the fuseblock and then it had trouble getting out and it only seems to get out ok when the reverse lights and gauges are pulled together. Any ideas? Thanks.

Greg, we conversed about these ignitions before and I tried to e-mail you some info but it would not go through. I put the exact set up on my 78 and have had no problem what so ever. I would suspect maybe your steep drive way, while you are going backwards, may be causing your fuel pump not to pick up any fuel. Just a thought. I cant think of any reason what difference it would make as to going forward or backwards on your ignition system.

I am still baffled by this. I installed a Crane XR700 and PS20 coils into my 78' 308 US spec car. My car runs great going forward in any gear but in reverse up my steep driveway I had no power and the car would stall. I advanced the timing which helped but it still has trouble. The hard the accelerator is pushed the faster it will stall. If I creep out and barely touch the accelerator I can usually get out in reverse. Can anyone help me with this. I was wondering if it maybe due to the set dwell that the XR700 comes with. My mechanical advances were fine and I checked numerous items before installing and the car had power in reverse with the 2 sets of points in it. Do the 2 sets of points add more low end when in reverse? Thanks for your help.
