Mitchell, I'm going to stab at this because obviously I am not there. Have someone take up the free travel on the clutch pedal by sitting in the car. With them holding the pedal in that position you should not be able to get any play at all in the linkage. When the pedal is released you should have the free travel at the pedal of about 1/2 inch. Actually, there is about 1/2 to 1 inch of free travel on the pedal before I feel the pressure plate pushing back. My question is on item 3) below, when the arm is pushed up agaist the pressure plate and then the linkage is adjusted to connect to the circuit, and then the cable is connected to the rest, WHERE is the free play coming from? The flexing up and down of the main clutch actuating arm (the one with the alignment hole in it)?

You should have some free travel in the pedal before you reach the point of pressure on the plate. How much is there?

I did the clutch adjustment procedure by the wsm but want to know if this is correct.

1. Disconnect the link to the clutch activating arm on the clutch shaft, and disconnect the cable to the clutch circuit.
2. Line up the 2 holes (one on the bell housing, one on the clutch linkage) and stick a medium size screw driver through it.
3. Move the clutch activating arm (that controls the pressure plate) and make sure that it a) pushes against the pressure plate, and b) then adjust the linkage length to connect to the rest of the linkage circuit that is held in place by the screw driver.
4. Adjust the clutch cable connection lenghth so that it connects to the other side of the clutch linkage with the screw driver still in place.

This has resulted in the clutch action that is smoother and lighter than before, and the take up is just about in the middle of the travel.

Question: will this also result in the pressure plate always pushed against the clutch ?
